Title: Mach upgrade
Post by: moto633 on December 27, 2008, 06:20:16 PM
Hi all, Hope your Holidays are going well.

Are upgrades of Mach free of charge? Also my shop computer is not hooked to the internet soooo. Can any one recommend how I can do the up grade if I'm aloud? I am not great with computers so take it easy on me!! Could I download the upgrade on a flash card and take it to the shop computer?

Thanks for your help,
Nick

What you might want to do is copy your xml file before you upgrade just in case anything goes wrong, not likely to but ......
The xml will be in the Mach3 folder on your drive and will be called Mach3Mill.xml if you use the standard Mill profile, Mach3Turn.xml if using standard turn etc etc. If you have a cistom profile it will be called  the name of your profile.xml.

When you get it downloaded just transfer to the shop computer and  double clcik on it and it will upgrade for you. If anything does go wrong and you lose your profile then just paste the copy you made back into the Mach3 folder :)

How do you normally start Mach? is it a desktop icon or is it the Mach loader? If the loader is the name of your profile in there?

It is a desk top icon called Mach loader. I click on that and it brings up a small window (Session Profile) with 4 choices ; M3 Mill, M3 turn, Plasma, Tribal Router. The last one being mine . I click on that and it brings up the control screen with tribal router in the lower left hand corner profile box.

I also noticed that it still said 2.0 before the screen stated up??? I'm lost..............

ok, did you copy the xml before the upgrade? If so copy and paste it back into the Mach 3 folder.

Copy and pasted still no response from the router........ Also on the start up screen when I click on tribal router it still pops up a pic that says version2.0 before the control screen appears???

If you go to the Help menu in Mach and then About it will show the version you have.
Ok, if you can attach the xml I will have a look at it and see if there is anything wrong in it.

Says ver 3.04. I can't get the xml to attach. It says there is a file like that already posted. I think I tried to send the xml to you or Chaotic in Oct.

ok, just copy the xml to your desktop and rename it to moto.xml and it should attach.
In the mean time try reinstalling Mach again.

Just looked at the xml and it looks fine and actually have your old one as well and its identical as far as pin setups etc .
Try the reinstall and make sure you dont  uncheck the parallel port driver option.
If that fails run the drivertest and see if its ok, its in the Mach3 folder, just double click it.
Wont be around much longer as its 1:30am but I am sure someone else will help you out if these things dont work.

Not sure what you mean by "What improvments will this do for me???"
If you are meaning what is better about the later version it depends what you were previously running, there have been huge improvements to lots of things and the latest one has been cutter comp so if you use that it should be good for you.

Didn't mean it as an insult. I had ver 2.0  and I don't keep up on this forum as much as I should. I cut cabinet parts, signs and a little 3d stuff with my router and am still learning more every day!! I heard that this ver might help with the 3d cuts.

I can't thank you enough for your help!!! Hope you have a great new year!

Never took it as an insult, just wasnt sure what you were meaning. Dont know if it will help you much withthe 3D stuff but it should load your CPU less so that cant harm :)

Hey Hood,
Just wanted you to know I got every thing back to working order today. I had to spend some time looking at the tutorials to remember how I had the ports and pins etc. set up. I scared myself trying to update. You know the saying "If it's not broken don't fix it" i feel like that is what i did to my router last night when I couldn't get it to move!

It's all better now and I think I have a sign to cut this week!!

Thanks a ton for your help,
Nick
