Title: How to Occupy Your Spare Time
Post by: WoodenWheeledClock on October 09, 2008, 11:38:39 AM
On the subject of Show and Tell.  Here is what I do.  I design and build wooden wheeled clocks.  My setup is shown in Pic 326.  The computer is a used PC with a chip that runs at 1.6 GHz.  The driver board is a Hobby CNC with 305 oz steppers.  The table is from WidgitMaster and is the Midi model which has a working area of about 8 inches by 8.5 inches.  I have successfully cut gears as small as 1/4 (pic 690) of an inch up to 8 inches in diameter.  The finished product is shown in pic 916 and 918.  The software to do all this is:

1. Involute / Cyclodial gear designer from     http://www.realhamradio.com/gearhome.htm
2. TurboCAD for general drawings              http://www.turbocad.com/TurboCAD/TurboCADforMac/tabid/556/Default.aspx
3. R2V  for jpg to vector conversion          http://www.mr-soft.net/
4. Lazy CAM for DFX to GCode
5.  Mach 3 to make it all work

With this fleet of software I have managed to produce some really great projects and also a big big box of rejects that start the fire in the fireplace really well.
