Title: conect switches to lpt port

I want to connect some switches to my second parallel port can i switch from ground to pin or is it important to use 5V extern for that?
can I connect them directly or should i use 5k resistor??

If you are connecting direct to the PP then a normally open momentary  switch to ground is all thats needed.
