Title: Solidedge2d to Lazycam text spacing problem.
Post by: zirakon on May 26, 2008, 05:06:51 AM
Hi
I am just evaluating Mach3 and Lazycam before Purchaseing it, so i just using the demo  ( Max 1000 g-code lines ).

When i make text like " ACTIVE " in Solidedge2d, save it as DXF. file and open it in Lazycam, there is a missmatch in spacing
between the letters   e.g.  ( ACTI  VE )....

I have posted this subject at cnczone forum, and Brian Barker is informed, and have desided to post at this forum too.

Hope someone have a solution....

Regards John Hansen :-\

Hi, John

Use the REPLY button and attach your DXF, Have you looked at it in any other cad software and saved another dxf .

DXF files from cad to cad are very different, Do you have an option to save it in Autocad 12 format.

Thanks, Chip

John, I went ito my ProgCad program and exploded the text and whalla! To get the text solid, you'll need to "pocket" them.

Forgot to mention, I never got the weird offset text you were describing, just that the text wouldn't even show up in LazyCam so I exploded it and it came out as you see it above.

Never be sorry for being a newb, we all are at one point - ;)   ...heck, I still am!

Pocketing is done in LazyCam Pro and allows an area to be milled out like your text would be so that you don't just have outlines of text.

Anyhow, you have to actually purchase lazycam pro in order to do offsets and pocketing but the videos give you a good idea of what's possible.

Have a look at the LazyCam Pocketing video here:

You're very welcome, just note that when you purchase Mach 3, LazyCam Pro is not included, only the evaluation version is.

LazyCam Pro is a $75 add-on:  http://www.machsupport.com/purchase.php

Great question, and unfortunately I can't give you an answer as I wouldn't know the actual process that is happening when doing that. I believe there's a forum for solidedge, possibly inquire there?

Hi, John

Exploded the text also, dxf below, Exploding the Text turns it into small line segments & arcs in most cad's..

Pocket & Offsetting in LCam Pro or CAD/CAM programs.

Interesting, Chip, I wonder why the outer circle doesn't show up in your DXF?

John, do you see the outer circle in Chips DXF?

Hi
What is that Progcad, or is it Progecad???
I have found out that if i use " i " the followering letter spaces against the " i "...
e.g    "acti ve" or "hi v" ....  I have no broblem with showing my panel in dxf viewer, Solidedge2d, A9CAD, and
others freeware and trail cad programs.
I have also tryed loading panel dxf file in A9CAD and used Explode function, then saved and open in Lazycam,
and with same resault..... :-[
I am not sure what you have done with my dxf. file to get it right....
I have also tryed to use 30 days Trail SE_CAD_Converter ( fore Solidedge dft. drawings ) but nothing works.
:-[ :-[ :-[  HELP!!!!! It is the only hurtle i need to get solved......

I used autocad alot to draw but since working with dxf's all the time now, it's tempermental as hell and I can't stand it anymore. You can download "progeCAD 2008 Smart!" here:

http://www.progecad.com/compra/index.asp?left=prodotti/eng_progecad2008smart&abspage=1&lang=eng

As for taking a screenshot, if you're using windows, while you have the lazycam screen showing, just hit the print screen on your keyboard, then open up MS Paint and paste into there. Then save it as a jpg file and upload it here . (click on the additional options button to show the upload features when you reply)-  :)

Sure,

These are the steps I do:

Open the program, click file-open and browse for the file. Open the file and "lasso" the whole drawing around the outer rectangle then click the left mouse button which makes all the lines in the image, dotted. Then I go to the top menu to "Express-Text-Explode Text". When you click that, you'll notice that all the block text is now turning into outlined text, right before your eyes, word by word. When it's all done, I click "File-Save as" and a dialog box comes up and under "save as type", I save it as Autocad release 11/12 ASCII (dxf).

That should open up perfectly in your lazycam as I posted for you earlier today. Let us know how it works out-
