Hi
Anyone out there know of any easy way of determining servo motor size reguired for a machine with out doing the maths.
I have been looking at similar new machines to mine and checking what servos they have. But if they don,t give the lead on the ball screws

What do you have for a machine?

Hi
Webster & Bennet verticle lathe.
36" chuck
2 axis X, Z
25 hp max motor speed 1420rev/min
max spindle speed 125rev/min
I intend fitting speed control to the motor.
I thought someone may have done a simple spread sheet for servos.
Also does Mach 3 have G96 for motor speed control (constant surface speed)??
Best Regards

I think you are going to have to look at the motors that I have just put on. http://web1.automationdirect.com/adc/Shopping/Catalog/Motion_Control/Servo_Systems/Medium_Inertia_(1KW_-_3KW)_Servo_Systems/1KW_Servo_System_(Med_Inertia)

Thanks Brian
Another step forward.
Between the web site you gave and the servos on our Mazak I should be able to work it out. I have down loaded the specs on 1 to 3kW drives and motors which by the toque graphs should be in the range I am looking for. The prices look ok as well. Transport costs may be high though to Aus.
Best Regards
Burgs
PS what did you use the drives on and how are they working?
Just found these guys are in Qld. Australia.

You can see the mill running here: http://machsupport.com/forum/index.php?topic=502.0 It is a BP type machine and the servo's are much to big for the job :)
