Hi everyone. I am trying to setup Mach3 on a new laptop but when I try to rename the backup settings file Mach3Mill.xb14 to .xml (to transfer the settings) it turns into a HTML file. Is there a way to stop this please?

Have you just tried transferring the latest xml file? I've never transferred the "xb14" file, I didn't know it existed. I suspect that Windows doesn't recognise the extension so labels it html as it has the "x" as the first character and html is probably the most versatile file format.

When you save the settings, the backups are saved in the xmlbackups folder in Mach3. They are saved in a sequential order the first having an extension of .xb1 and so forth.
This is the Readme file that goes with it
This directory is used to hold backups of your XMLs as you change them.
If you would like to use one of the backups simply change the files extention to .xml and place it into the Mach3 Directory.
Thank you

So my problem is the extension changes to a HTML document when I put it in the Mach3 directory and try to change it to .xml.
This is above my pay gradeand any help will be appreciated
Thanks

So, after all that, apparently it's not a problem. Mach3 will read it even though it shows as a HTML document.
I must have been doing something else wrong but it all works fine now.
I apologise for my ignorance but I learn something new every day.
