Artis Drive Co.,LTD Ethernet Smooth Stepper Break Out Board

The main purpose of the Ethernet Smooth Stepper (hereinafter referred to as ESS) Breakout Board made by AD is to utilize the ESS board produced by Warp9 to implement the functions of a commercial CNC controller.

1. 24V Level Power Supply
- Most industrial equipment is configured with a DC 24V SMPS. To use 24V probe sensors and other 24V sensor devices, the board is configured using DC-DC converters and photocoupler isolation circuits.

2. Circuit Configuration for 6-Axis Control and Encoder Input, Including Spindle Encoder Input
- The ESS board’s basic inputs and outputs are appropriately arranged to utilize the following functions:

1) 8 channels of 24V level NPN inputs
- Recommended configuration: 6 home sensors for the driving axes, 1 probe, and 1 emergency stop switch
2) Line drive signal outputs for controlling 6 axes
3) A/B/Z line drive encoder signal inputs from 6-axis servo drivers
4) 1 A/B/Z spindle encoder input
5) 1 A/B phase MPG input at 5V level
6) 8 outputs at the ESS default level
- Recommended to use a photocoupler board from the MBIOM series, or an 8-channel relay output board easily available in the market.

3. Separate Tandem Control Expansion Function
- By expanding the line drive output board, it supports mirroring control of the desired axis, enabling multi-axis control beyond the basic 6 axes.
- Most commercial servo drives have a function to ignore pulse train input by inputting an INHIBIT signal. This can be used to control the axes synchronously under normal conditions. If separate axis adjustments are needed due to mechanical or other issues, the INHIBIT function can be activated to allow only the specific axis to operate.

MODBUS TCP Board's

We have developed a Modbus TCP communication-based module for use with Mach4. The IP of the basic communication module follows the 10.9.9.********* format, allowing simultaneous use with Warp9's Ethernet Smooth Stepper. The IP can be configured through 8 DIP switches.

1. Digital Input/Output Module
- Each communication module can connect up to 16 input channels and 16 output channels in series.
- The unique channel of each I/O module can be set with DIP switches.
- Each channel is composed of a 32-bit shift register, allowing control of a total of 512 input and 512 output signals.
- For outputs, logic signals can be applied to the AC servo drive through the bi-directional input/output photocoupler board, or by using an 8-channel relay board available from Aliexpress or other similar sources. Alternatively, the Small DIN Relay Board can control magnets or other relays.
- For input signals, 24V logic sensors or limit switches can be isolated and received through the photocoupler board.

2. Analog Output Module
- This module, featuring the TI DAC8562 chip, can control bi-directional 10V output through Modbus TCP.
- It includes a built-in DC-DC converter, allowing easy control of two channels of bi-directional 10V output by simply inputting 24V to the main input.

3. Analog Input Module
- Each communication module can communicate with up to 4 ADS1115s, providing a total of 16 ADC input channels.
- The primary design concept is to receive a 10V analog output from inverters or AC servo drives for RPM or torque monitoring through Modbus TCP communication.
- The sample rate and resolution settings of the ADS1115 can be changed via Modbus TCP communication.

4. Bi-directional Input/Output Photocoupler Board
- The bi-directional photocoupler board has connectors arranged to receive individual inputs or 8 inputs/outputs collectively.
- The circuit is designed to allow separate power supply for each input and output side. If you want to use 24V input logic, insert the included 2.2k ohm resistor into the resistor socket. For 3.3V or 5V input logic, use the included 120 ohm resistor.
- The input logic is NPN.

We are currently finalizing the product planning, including cable configurations, to directly connect to servo drivers from brands such as Panasonic, Yaskawa, Mitsubishi, and LS.

Manuals for these boards are also being created in various languages.

We strive to enable more people to create various equipment, including CNC machines, more easily with Mach4 by offering a wider range of I/O and reliable modules.
I believe that more users should use Mach4, which is why I developed these boards.

Finally, I am sharing the links to the latest projects created using these boards.

Thanks.
