Title: Lathe spindle encoder
Post by: menardmfg on April 28, 2024, 10:54:46 AM
I’m looking for spindle encoder recommendations I’m using ESS with mb3 board and I’m definitely going to do threading. I’m curious to know what this group has had good luck with.
Thanks

Thanks for that, but I already have a 5hp marathon motor running on a vfd my question was what encoder are people using for rpm feed back and for threading?
Thanks

Usually a low resolution encoder 100 to 500 PPR.
We offer this one:

Does M4 need a i ppr index pulse as well as an encoder?

I use the Z channel on the encoder for the index pulse.

Thanks Graham.  So the answer is yes, and the encoder either needs to have a z channel or a separate 1 ppr sensor.

Note that if you use the Z channel of the encoder, the encoder must be "geared" 1:1 with the spindle.
