Title: Mach 3 homing

Fitting homing switches to my machine but when I "ref all home" the Z travels up to activate the limit switch but does not reverse enough to release the switch.  How do I increase this distance?

Hi,
you have a problem......the machine is not Homing. If it were it would travel to the home switch, activate it and then back-off. It will back-off until
the switch de-activates. If it does not that means the machine is treating the switch as a Limit rather than a Home.

Try (in Ports and Pins) disabling that switch as a Limit and double check that it is assigned as Home.

It is trying to home, it activates the switch, reverses but not enough to reset the switch.  If I activate the switch manually and release it as it is reversing it then starts homing the next axis but with the same problem.

Tweakie.CNC says Mach should back off until the switch changes state. and the OP says a reinstall solved the problem.

Found the problem. Under "plug in control" in the menu bar there is an option to select my control board. In that are options for how far each axis backs off once the switch is triggered. It now trips the switch, backs of rapidly then trips the switch again but very slowly for more precision then backs off again and sets zero.
