Hello,
I'm sure there is an answer buried in the 6 pages and 1000s of comments in threads from days past to my question but after some brief searching I got nothing.
Attempting to thread on my gear head lathe (no spindle control with Mach3, and not spindle feedback).
Not going well.
The X depth seems to work, but Z movement is way out of wack and the cut is all over hahaha.
I tried slower and tried faster.
Here is video @ 90RPM on the lathe.
(The Zaxis set up is pretty heavy, can't get much for speed out of the 1700 oz-in motor).

Hi,
threading requires that the spindle is synchronised to the Z axis movement, its fundamental to be able to take multiple cuts of a thread to get it to its
final depth.
Mach3 REQUIRES a single pulse per rev index signal. If you do not have one you'll have to provide one. Mach3 is also expects and demands that your spindle
be a stable speed, neither getting faster or slower as the cut progresses. If your spindle cannot stay stable then single point lathe threading with Mach3 is going
to be a disaster.

Yeah put a call into a friend.
I do have a cherry hall sensor. But could never get it to work with the break out board! Haha.
It's 3 wires, and 12V.
Any ideas on getting it going with a DB25 1R5AM board?

I Have this.
From what I know the brown wire is power to the 1-10V port on the board. Then the blue goes to a normal port and black goes to ground? Then the port needs to be assigned to the spindle reading but it never did give me any feedback before (I didn't have a smooth stepper before and had a ton of interference from the parallel ports).
I dont think the board has any pull up or down setting?

Okay,
Cherry hall sensor is wired on.
I have it set to port 11 (blue wire) which is a signal input.
Red is in the 0-10V pin and black to ground.
I have a power source going to the 12-24V and ground as well.
In mach I set port 11 to index and I have a green light in diagnostics now.
Is this correct for just indexing the spindle for threading?
Any way I know to test this? It doesn't show a spindle speed when I turn on the spindle and tried typing M3.
(Lathe is gear box so I can't control the spindle from computer).

Hi,
Mach doe not need to cotrol the spindle but it does need an index signal from it.
The manual for your board is a joke.....there is no information about the electrical properties of the inputs, and without that
there is no way to get the index signal working.

Okay,
Well, I do have the C10 board but it's only a 5V?
I'm open to buying a different sensor (this cherry hall come with the lathe as is). Any ideas on something Craig?

I bought a hall proximity sensor off Amazon.
Hopefully it does the trick.
Not even sure this current one works haha, for 30 bucks I'll try another. I may splice the power from the plug direct to the sensor and not run through the board other then the signal wire?
If that makes sense and that way I know the sensor is powered properly.

Yes, read through it. Didn't seem to help with with setting up the sensor.
I'm hoping the sensor is broken (or not working proper, like the rest of this lathe was when I got it lol). New sensor on the way, will install and test when it's here.
Current one come with the lathe, nothing worked which is why I got the thing dirt cheap and I've rebuilt everything. Never could get the sensor working so I've just been cutting without it (since it's a gear box lathe). But I want to try and thread some stuff now and well it's needed haha!

Got it working!
Sensor shows within 1-2 RPM of what the gear box chart reads which is awesome.
