Title: Mach4 and Addons
Post by: Joe Alan on August 24, 2021, 05:44:22 PM
Hello-

I had to upgrade my laptop that I use with my machine and now I cannot get mach4 to communicate with my  machine. Previously I connected the old laptop to the controller using a parallel port (DB25) and everything worked fine for years. My new laptop only has USB connections. When connecting a USB to DB25 adapter to the controller, nothing happens, the stepper motors do not move. I have confirmed the license was installed correctly. The issue seems to be a port issue on my new laptop but have no idea how to resolve. Any direction or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I am working with a TAIG2019CNC with MACH4 and the parallel port addon.

Unfortunately the Mach4 Parallel Port addon is only designed to drive a 'Parallel Port' built into the PC not an external USB to Parallel Port adapter. The PCMI type Parallel Port adapters may be OK but the best option is to use an EU or USA manufactured external motion controller (avoid the Chinese products) such as one of the following;

CNC Drive  -  http://cncdrive.com/
Warp9TD -  https://warp9td.com/
Pokeys -  https://www.poscope.com/product/pokeys57cnc/#tab_downloads
PMDX -  http://www.pmdx.com/
Vital Systems -  https://www.vitalsystem.com/portal/motion/hicon/hicon_integra/hicon_integra.php
CS Lab -  https://en.cs-lab.eu/product/csmioip-s-6-axis-ethernet-motion-controller-stepdir-with-connectors/

Hope this helps,
