Title: Auto Z zero
Post by: mikeplanes on October 02, 2018, 12:49:20 PM
Hi all,
I had a computer crash some weeks ago, when my power supply in to computer went dead.
I have manage to reinstall my Mach3 to almost where this happened,( I am using screen set 2010 and have been very happy with it from the start), all but the auto Z for when I do a tool change.
When I click ether button on the tool bar I get the following message. CLEARANCE PLANE MUST > 0 - PLEASE RESET.
Can anyone throw some light on this.

Mike

Go to the Tool Change tab and change the clearance plane value to something greater than 0 (like the message says)

Thank you for the reply. I can't change anything in that side of the box? I tried to put in the touch plate thickness and tick safe Z box, I can put in the numbers but when I enter it go's back to zero on all box's.

Are you hitting the enter key? You need to hit the enter key after typing in the numbers.

If yes, what version of Mach3?

YES, I have been using this screen set since 2010, It is just after the computer crashed I have had this problem.

If you can't enter values in the DRO's, then it's either a problem with the Mach3 installation, or the version is too old to work with the screenset.

I have been using this version, screen set and set up for eight years. As I said at the start the computer crashed then I had to replace the power supply. I am able to use 98% of the set up but still no Z for tool change. Could the crash of damaged the macro's or the hard drive.
I have spent today downloading my set up on to my other computer with windows 7 on it I can get everything to work but when I take it down to the workshop connect it all up it wont talk to the Gecko.

You didn't say what version of Mach3 you are using?
As far as I know, the only thing that would prevent you from entering values in the DRO is if the version of Mach3 is too old.

Other than that, all I can say is to uninstall and re-install.

Are you using a copy of the original .xml file? I guess a corrupt .xml could also cause issues?

Thanks as always for your time and help.
The version I am running is R3.042.037.
Is the a more resent version if so were do I down load it and do I have to pay?
Will Mach3 run on windows 7
I have a spare computer with nothing on it excepted windows XP I down loaded my Mach3 but when I put the 2010 screen set in I don't get full graphics.
I also took my computer with windows 7 on and on this computer everything on Mach3 works but it will not connect to the Geco, I have check the Bios and it is set at EPP.
I really need to change the computer in the workshop as yesterday I was cutting some simple parts and had all sorts of issues.
As the computer in the work shop is on its last legs but still allows me to do some work, If I should uninstall/reinstall Mach3, should it still work if not fix the problem?

Hi Mike,

You can download the most recent version of Mach3, (completely free of charge  :) ) from here;  http://www.machsupport.com/software/downloads-updates/

and Yes it will run on XP or Win7.

The screenset should work fine on that version.

Your Mach3 license is good for all versions of Mach3. The latest version is here, but I actually use an older version than you are using (I think 3.042.020 or .029)
http://www.machsupport.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/Mach3Version3.043.exe

If you are using the parallel port, you'll need a 32 bit version of Windows 7.

What do you mean by "full graphics". If backgrounds are missing, the screenset is installed in the wrong place.

Re-installing **should** fix it, IF there's a problem. but I can't guarantee that it will, or that it won't make it worse.

Where should the screenset be installed?

Wherever your Mach3 folder is. It's sometimes easy to install it in Mach3\Mach3\ if you don't pay attention during the install.

You should have a Mach3\bitmaps\2010\ folder. If you don't, the graphics won't be displayed.

Thank you, the computer in the workshop went bust yesterday when I tried to install the updated Mach3, as I thought some thing is corrupt on the drive, So I am stating again with a new/old computer.
