Title: CNC LAthe Foot Pedal ?

OK, haven't seen a real dumb question posted lately, so it's time.  ;D

What is the corded remote foot pedal for that I see attached to many CNC lathes ?

Operate the chuck ? ? ? while it takes 2 hands for a heavy part ? ? ?  or ? ? ? .......

 ???

That is exactly what some of them are used for RC. Foot pedals are nice for lots of things. Unlocking a fixture that rotates is another good use.

I'm thinking of sliding mine under my desk and using it to actuate a robotic fridge door opening beverage delivery mechanism.
