Title: Computer Requirments
Post by: olf20 on April 11, 2007, 07:26:19 PM
I have been testing my motors / drives / etc with Master5. Everything is looking good and
I'm getting ready to purchase a computer for Mach3. I see on Ebay that the Dell Optiplex
computers are going for a reasonable price. Has anyone used them?? The processor speeds
range from 1Ghz to 2.4. As always I have to watch my dollars.
Thanks in advance for any sugestions or idea's.

That sounds goos for the CPU, you just need to look out for the onboard video :( It can be trouble at times

I don't know this for sure as I haven't seen it. It may make the screen freeze somtimes I think. I have a cheap dell and it runs good. I'm not doing anything real fast though. I think it is a 2.8 Ghz CPU and ran with 256 of ram. This is not advised, just shareing it with you. Also it has onboard graphics. I don't think it has a PCI express slot either. I can let you know in a few days how the new PC does. I have about $350.00 in parts for it. I didn't need the new PC for the mill, just though I should since I need another PC in the office. Mounting the components takes up less space than a midtower.

Thanks for the info. When you get your new one up and going I would appreciate any feedback.
I've build a lot of computers. My wife says use the ones you have. But there is something wrong
with the one that has XP on it, and in the sake of time I thought if I could pick one up it would get
me to the mill quicker.
Thanks again!!

Your welcome. If I haven't posted on it in a few days, send me a PM. I forget sometimes.  ;) Not on purpose though.
