Hi there, has any one done any text engraving in wood, more then just a sign, such as a poem or a couple of paragraphs on mdf? If yes I would like to hear from you, I have a poem of about five paragraphs long it needs to be cut into mdf of a certain size to fit into a frame, what is the best program or text writer to use?

I would imagine Vectric would but I'm sure there are others as well.
This may help

Ok, who else clicked on this expecting... a poem!
I have never seen a thing
as lovely as can be
It is not a swaying tree
It is, Mach3
(ok there, now you've seen what you came for - move along! :D )

That's great, now if you can convert it into G code I would be as happy as one can be !

I would be even happier if you tried using the suggested program and then came back if you had a problem. ;)
