Title: Installing two Mach3 versions - to run one or the other

I know this has been covered throughout mach's history as I remember reading about it, but I've searched for some time to find info on it.

What is the best solution to run two versions of Mach3(one at a time) while easily switching between the two?
  I want to test a version while being able to go to my "proven' version(3.042.040),  alternately closing that version and open the latest version or some such also containing .040's XMLs and profiles and maybe some other custom files, plugins.

The two Mach3 folders in C can be renamed, but I'm at a loss if there is a way not to have to rename them each time to use one or the other.
And then there is the possible driver version conflicts.....

Okay! I found something.....providing the pulse engines/drivers are the same.

Install the two versions in "C" naming each Mach3 folder differently such as Mach3.042.040 and Mach3.043.066.  Don't use original desktop shortcuts.
Make new shortcuts from .exe startup file within each folder named appropriately.

I don't have feedback on this, but I think this is how to do it.   Am I missing something?  Are the drivers/pulse engines install different?

Hi John,

I don’t know if this is any help but I run the same installation of Mach3 in a number of different ways, each with a different configuration (Port and Pin settings etc).

All I do is create a new profile (one with a different .xml file) and then add the shortcut for the new profile (appropriately named) to my desktop.

Yah Tweakie, I've got the version 3.042.040 installed with different profiles and XMLs, and screens.  But what I want to do is quickly close 3.042.040 and then run the same machine  with 3.043.066 using chosen profiles, screens, XMLS  both from the 3.042.040 and new ones created just for 3.043.066.

This leads me to possibly be able to install a third version(3.043.062) and run that if so desired.   I'm looking for anomalies between these versions using the same machine but with different plugins, screens(I have Gerry's 2010), and Profiles.

Specifically I am testing the newer plugin for the Yaskawa panel pendant using the pokeys56U and want to see if it will conflict with the setups between versions.

This all stems from the suggestions made when installing the Yaskawa, asking me to install the latest version of Mach3, while elsewhere I am instructed to install the 040 version.

maybe this thread should be in the Pokeys section of the forum, but just running different versions seems General.

I went ahead and installed both versions(042.040 and 043.066) and they both coexist just fine(one at a time).  Looking further, I verified that both use the same pulse engine so no conflicts switching between the two.
