Title: External start button
Post by: scrambled on July 06, 2012, 08:42:37 PM
I finally have my flame table running halfway decent, so it is time to start monkeying with it.   I am trying to add an external start button.   I have a switch wired up already, and it works.   I have it assigned to turn on an input #1 so I can watch the led turn on and off.

The problem is when I try to enter a number "1000" in the ports and pins for OEM trigger #1 .   I can't enter a number, it will only allow me to press a key and then the number is automatically entered.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for the help

Steve

Hey Steve,
You have to set the OEM Trigger up under System Hotkeys Setup in Gen Config. There, it will accept 1000 for the OEM code.

Then you set up the input pin under Ports and Pins.

I have been thinking about doing the same thing.

On my set-up there will be (2) button  switches that have to be pressed at the same time.

Hopefully this will eliminate any accidental activation. ;)

Jackal-  I have no been able to get to the shop to try this out, but I am hoping to tonight.

The two button idea is a good one.

Let me know how it works out.

I have just been afraid  to set up  1 button, because accidents do happen.

Never had an issue with a single button, all industrial controls I have seen only have a single button. If however you are worried then linking two buttons in series would work fine or alternatively get a button with a cover that you need to hinge up before you can press.

Hood. They also make a large recessed button that has a ring that covers the button.  You have to push the button and only the button to get it to work.

Yes, the one on my mill is a rectangle but it does not sit proud of the housing so it is the same idea. The other machines have the stainless vandal proff buttons on them and again the sit flush with the outer face.

I was wanting to mount the button on my pendant. Sometimes I drop the pendant and it could hit the corner of something that might activate the switch.

The covered button suggested by Hood sounds really good. :)

Thanks,

I have the buttons wit the cover over my drawbar and computer On buttons  , its also on the button for spindle disable but really its not needed on that one, it was just I had one to use.
In the pic you will see the 3 covered buttons at the top, the middle lot are normal where the button protrudes and the lower 3 (Start, Hold and Stop) are the ones where the button is flush with the surround.

Hood,

I like that and may steal your idea.

Hi, thanks all for the information
My Problem, i make a hot melt glue dispensing machine up to now the customer has been happy with using the PC keyboard and mouse but as some expert wants more out of the machineand has concluded that the machine would produce more if the operator only has to press buttons, cant argue the point..
So i think this is what i need to do, bear in mind its a 2 axis glue mache=ine with instead of spindle start, stindle start operates a relay to switch a valve to dispense glue.
Buttons required 4,
Cycle start Port 1, Pin 12, OEM Trig 1 set to1000
Cycle Stop Port 1, Pin 13, OEM Trig 2 set to 1003
Reset  Port 1, Pin 15, OEM Trig 3 set to 1021
E-Stop set up as normal on Port 1, Pin 10.

Can anyone confirm this, that i have the correct codes for the latest lockdown version of mach3.
The buttons are momentary press/release

Thanks to all

Look forward to anyones help, Thanks in advance
