Title: CNC Keys version 2 sneek peek.........
Post by: poppabear on May 31, 2011, 05:47:44 PM
Here is a CNC Keys design I submitted to Boris for production based on the pokeys. This is like the current CNC key sets sold by Aurturo, except this one will have LEDs in each button to show if that function is active or not. I think the production model will have slightly bigger buttons, and the LEDs will be moved to the left side, and I think a few of the ICONs will be changed, but the function order will be the same.

The functions in group one on the left (16 buttons) left to right, top to bottom:
Cycle start, single step, Load file, set next line
feed hold, reverse run, Close file, Run from here
stop, M1, rewind, block delete
reset, edit file, rewind, ref

middle group:
Spindle CW, Spin speed increase, feed speed increase, Jog On/Off
Spindle Stop, Spin Speed reset, feed speed reset, Jog speed +
Spindle CCW, Spin speed decrease, Feed speed decrease, Jog speed -
go to Zerio's, teach, stop teach, shuttle mode

end group:
X Jog select, Y jog select, Z jog select, step set 0.001
A Jog select, B jog select, C jog select, step set 0.01
+ positive jog move, Rapid jog move, - jog move, step set 0.1
Continous jog, Increment jog, MPG jog, step set 1.0

tell me what you think?

***edit 13Sep2011**
I added a pic of the new CNC keyboard that I designed for Boris so you can see the differences between the Old and New ones (old ones Arturo sells still).
I think the LEDs in the Keys really set it off.

First impression is it is a little busy but once in use the keys would become easier to find.

Thought about adding three pots to the panel for - Feedrate override, Jog Speed (handy for setting up work) and Spindle Speed?

Scott,

Nice job.  Is this something you are going to publish?  If you do I could offer the PCB and domes so people could make their own custom panels.

hmmm, well Boris is doing this and making a few changes to what he wants.......

BUT, call me at home you got my number, I would be glad to do one for you as well.

I like the way this looks, I bet it looks even better with the LED's.

I'm a sucker for back-lit keys :)

showed the side by side comparison, with the new design verses the old design in the post #1 above.

Scott,
Any update on availability of these ?
I was also wondering if a button could be programmed to do something else, (ex. Regen Toolpath), by the user.

Nevermind , I found them on the polabs website.......Apparantly they are NOT compatible with my pokeys 55T, or am I mistaken?

The kb48CNC keyboard utilizes the PoNET bus, which was introduced in PoKeys56 series of devices. Unfortunately, this means that kb48CNC can not be used with PoKeys55 devices.

Okay, I bought one of these and I can't get it to talk to Mach....it's powered up and the ready led is on steady so all is good there.  However, in the Mach pokeys config screen, I don't have the option to check the "use cnc keys with led's" box that the pokeys help me says is supposed to be there. What am I doing wrong?

You should use the PoKeys configuration software to enable mapping of kbd48CNC to matrix keyboard. Then, the settings in Mach would be the same as if there was a matrix keyboard connected to the PoKeys board.

Be sure to use the mach3 development version : Mach3 R3.043.053.

Might be little too late, but do i need special version of PoKeys?

Be sure to use the mach3 development version : Mach3 R3.043.053.

That is the version of Mach that I am using...with the pokeys 10.6.4 plugin and still don't have this thing working.. I set up the Mach config screen for "use matrix keyboard" with 6 columns, 8 rows and assigned the proper pins etc.....did the same in the pokeys software but I am missing something somewhere. If I go to the pokeys diagnostic screen in Mach, I can see leds blinking like crazy as if I am pushing buttons but......By the way, I am using the keypad with a pokeys 56U if that matters

with the pokeys 10.6.4 plugin is only for the Old style original PK USB  (the 55T).

the CNC keyboard is on an I2C bus, and that can only be set on the New PKU or PKE, Brian is the one doing the new PK plugin, so you will need to download it
(it is in Beta by the way), and as far as I am currently aware is still being worked on due to some changes in the way the PK DLL worked. So, Brian is having to redo some stuff in it again.............

I recommend, you post on the Yahoo Group, and ask Brian there directly what the status of the new plugin is.

When you enable the 'Enable mapping to matrix keyboard' in PoKeys configuration application, the new CNC keyboard works the same as there would be a matrix keyboard connected to PoKeys. Plugin should not see the difference at all.

unfortunately, not completely true, the CNC keys even though you can see the presses (and then only on the New PKU, and PKE, the old PKU 55T did not have a working I2C bus that handled the cnckeys that was integrated with the plugin I did. The CNC keys have only been mapped to Mach3 cnc functions on the New PKU/PKE, the older plugin (mine), also did not have matrix keys mapped for you to CNC functions, I only did that for limited OEM Matrix Key pad units, for the CNC keys that I did for Aurturo.

So summery is this:
New PKU/PKE Plugin (the one Brian is doing),have the I2C CNCkeys mapped already to mach3 CNC functions.
Old PKU (55T), (Stock plugin the one I did), does NOT have (CNC keys mapped the ones boris did based on my designs) to native Mach3 functions, (but I did do some OEM specific ones, that where not general release, based on the CNC Matrix keys I did for Aurturo), further, the (CNC keys, boris') do NOT use the same matrix order layout UserLED mapping that the standard Matrix Keys that mapped to ULEDs that I did.
I did standard Matrix keys layout in left to right, top to bottom, in a large 16 columb x 8 row grid.
the new CNCkey order (that boris did), layout does some weird up/down per 2 columbs, and in/out type of stuff (see manual).

Is there a setup file for CNCkeys? Its crazy to have everyone go nuts to set up every key and led.

Is there at least somekind of guide how to program all the buttons? Manual doesn't particularly cover it.

Old stuff you rolled your own, or paid someone (like me, that did some for some OEMs) to do it for you.
New plugin that Brian is doing those functions are mapped already for you.

other than that, your own your own.

The buttons, (and LED's),  are automatically configured in Mach once it's hooked up. I actually BRIEFLY had mine working and it was awesome.
I'm not exactly sure what I did to get it working or why it stopped working but....guess we'll have to wait for the new plug-in.

A bit off topic but, I did notice that my new pokeys 56U does NOT have a battery in the allocated space for one on the board....
Is this normal?  If not, does anyone know what size/style should be in there?

Thanks Marc!

Think section 8 of manual says that battery is for future use only and one shouldnt be put in there.

Hello,

i have already bought the new Po-Keys CNC Keyboard and the Po-Keys56U, i use the newest Software and Plugin from the PoLoabs Homepage.
I have configured the Keyboard for Map to the Matrix Keyboard an create a hole bunch of Hotkeys and implemented this Hotkeys invisible into my
Mach3 Screen.
But there are some issues, how can i use the LED on the Keyboard, if is select the "Z" Axis with the Z butten the i want that LED comes up.

The Description for this Keyboard or the Support is not really useful. So many open questions.

Thank You All.

As far as I know, Brian is working hard to fully support the keyboard in the next plugin version.

Matevž,
Have you heard of any updates on this plug in?

Hi, Marc

Unfortunately, plugin still needs some final touches.
