Hi,
Is it possible in LT to do a tool path only between the z limits desired?
Also, why can't I do a rough toolpath of the attached profile? Only get the toolpath as shown...
Thanks,
Dan

Dan, "Zone" machining was mentioned early on, but the function was never included that I'm aware of.
The stock has to be of sufficient dia. to accommodate the tool radius plus the stock clearance amount in order for LT to see that a cut is required at the end of the part.
Rich will be along soon.
Good luck,

Dan,
You can't select a part of the profile to machine. You can however provide a drawing of the section and do it that way.
Yes the high end CAM programs do what you are asking.
I didn't didn't try a Z offset, as you have, but it will do a rough cut as shown in the attached pic.
What program did you create the DXF with?
I had problems with it in 3 versions of Autocad, opened in Microstation but was labeled as a 3D drawing, had to convert........etc.
Was it saved as version 12 dxf?

Thank you Rich and Russ. Will try to figure my way along.
Rich, I cannot create proper 2D DXF files so I asked a friend to do it for me in AutoCAD. I think he then saved it as 2004 version (I didn't know that version 12 was needed). But then the coordinate system was wrongly placed, so I opened it in D2nc and rearranged it and deleted the unneeded lines.

Dan,
DXF versions other than 12 have worked but D2nc (which i know nothning about ) must be doing something when saving the file.

Hmm... but here LT loads the file fine after it's been exported from D2nc.
By the way, Rich, it's worth checking D2nc. It's another great piece of software for us "lazy" :)

LT imports the file fine here also. I like to have at look at the posted files for other reasons.
