Title: Voltage reference
Post by: N4NV on March 14, 2010, 06:29:29 PM
I am installing a Pokeys.  All of everything on my CNC machine is powered by a regulated power supply +5V, +10V and +24V.  Nothing is powered by the USB from my computer.  It appears that the Pokeys gets it power from the USB port of the computer.  How should I wire it so that things like switches, encoders etc will reference properly?  For instance, my encoder gets its +5V from the power supply.  If I wire the channel A and B outputs directly to the PoKeys, will it still work?  Also, I use Hall effect switches for a lot of functions on my machine.  They typically have +5v, Gnd and a Output.  If I power the Hall switch from my power supply and connect the output to an input of the Pokeys, will it work?

Thanks

Vince

Hi!

You should connect all GNDs. GND is the reference.
