General Mach Discussion / Restart after moving spindle
« on: October 01, 2009, 05:02:03 PM »
Hey all, as my job was cutting I had to E stop, cause it was going to hit a fixture.  I had to jog the spindle out of the way to reset the fixture. Now I am a little screwed (I think).

I did a GOTO ZERO
Its looks good.
Then I jogged to a SAFE Z
Located the line to starton, and clicked RUN FROM HERE
Then CYCLE START
As for the prep moveI left it as is - however, it looks like it wants to skate diagonally across the piece and muck up what is already cut.

Should I be adjusting the prep move for a "safe Z"?

thanks

General Mach Discussion / overuse of limit switches
« on: May 30, 2009, 09:55:40 PM »
Hey all, for my Z axis I am using a single microswitch.  Its being used for Z--  Z++ and Z home.  My Z and Y axis have two switches each, using two switches each in series, both being used for --, ++ and home.

All seems to work fine.  Any drawbacks to using this setup?

thanks

General Mach Discussion / Re: Which CAD/CAM software for newbie

If you have an engineer student friend, you can get the educational version of SolidWorks for $200 USD.  Normally sells for $4-5k.  Fantastic 3D CAD program.

Well I got the 60USD touch screen from ebay (seller gear213).  Works great!  Little fiddling required to attach it to the monitor, but some double sided tape came in handy.

Hood - thanks for the tip!

Hey Triag, why did you want to use a stepper for a spindle? Just curious.

screw revs per unit =1/0.4 =2.5

You are working in mm and it takes 2.5 revolutions of your screw to go 1mm?   Is that correct?

Hi Hood,  is this the touch panel add-on kit you purchased?  Chinize one from "Lava".

Just want to make sure I am not intentionally buying junkola.

thanks

Thanks Hood.  I found a few guys on ebay and I will check it out.  Also found your screen set on the artsoft site.  Thanks for posting it.

Thanks Hood, glad to hear it.  Couple of questions for you: Do you know if your touch screen is resistive or capacitive?  Also which Mach screen set do you use for touch screen?

thanks
