Mach3 under Vista / vista-virtual pc 2007-xp-mach3
« on: December 28, 2007, 03:30:30 PM »
MR ART

just want to ask, have you messed around with installing virtual pc on a vista machine then installing win xp and configure xp to run mach3.
i have played with virtual pc under xp so i could use some old systems 98 and dos .stuff runs really well.plus you can have all systems doing
something at the same time.

plus i want to thank you and your group for the time and work that has been spent.well done!
upgraded to 3.0 yesterday and the differance is notable in the macnine running and in the use of l-cam.

thanks bill

i think what you are doing is simular to a part that i cut for some of my cues.we need the straight wall to make the part work.
your pieces are more elaborite than mine but you still need the straight wall.i cut a six point splice joint that has to be glueable.
i dont have any pictures right now of unasembled parts, try to cut some this weekend to show you.the g-code for these are hand written.
not to much luck trying to do it with a cad.

hello hood
i ran into the xml problem today too.i keep a copy of  my profiles on  a zip drive to keep them safe.
when i did the install of mach3.0 today,it was realy clean.i wiped everything old out, even went through the registry.
did the new install, loaded my main profile when i started mach and when i moved the table the motors ran rough.
went to motor tuning and sure enough pulse width and vel were change.set them back everything ok,so far.
then i loaded my other 2 profiles to try them, and it changed both them too.each profile had a differant pulse width setting.
now after loading them a few times they seem to stay unchanged.

thanks bill

I and J work around a fixed point.
when you rotate your A axis you make the point move.not to good unless your setup and software are pretty much perfect.
if you can do it,explain the piece you are trying to cut and the material you want to use.
also in your post, your A axis has a pretty good resolution,do you need that much.that will cut into your speed pretty good.
try setting your driver to full step.that will give you 40 steps per degree or 10 steps for 1/4 degree.good for general machining
if you are going to finish out the piece by grinding, then the high resolution helps.

if mach3 will run on a full 64 bit system,i will wan't to build the new system.but if i have to stay with 32 bit i won't.i have been reading the forum for about a year now
and i don't remember seeing anything about full 64 bit compatability.havn't looked at vista and quantom .
my amd 1.4 with the amd 760 chipset is strong. so if i build again it will be another matched chipset.

don't want to highjack rkjohn thread. i use nvidia too.nice card.
my question is,i am thinking about putting together a new computer.was thinking about doing amd64 with amd 690g chipset and winxp for 64bit.
do you think this should be ok for mach3.

thanks bill

try getting your power supply squared away first .if you have a step motor energized and you can feel it hum ,your dc power is not smooth enough.
you will be generating a strong and weak power wave,it is not nice to ask your motor to take a strong step on a weak wave.
the bleed resistor is more for your saftey than the caps.

lcam will look at a move like this.

g00 z.200   as a rapid move - showing a broken line
g01 z.200   as a chain - showing a solid line

when you take a drawing with no z moves, then add z depth of cut with a feedrate then  generate g-code with lcam.
then import it back into lcam you will see the z travel as a chan.
