Hi!
i fried my chinese Tb6600 5a controller today... even after i reworked the cooling :/ i should not have bought that cheap stuff i guess! or is there a possibility to burn this down using false mach3 settings? wrong velocity or something?
im running a 4 axis (double Y) cnc mill and it would be nice to have a one-in-all controller solution which is solid and doesnt burn down again. im using 4 Nema23 Motors and already have a 36v power source.
Any recommendations would be really nice

Gecko G540.
No, there are no settings in Mach3 that can damage your hardware.
A large portion of the people that can't afford the better hardware, actually end up paying for both the cheaper hardware, and the better hardware when the cheap stuff dies.

i already saw the gecko G540 and it looks really nice! do i only need the G540 or do i need any extra boards that will be attached to the motors? (sorry, kinda newbie regarding this)

so the 36v wouldnt fit?
it says 15 - 50v or am i missing something?

i just found something that makes me wonder a little bit:
im using 4 Nema23 Motors: 57BYGHM201 on http://de.wantmotor.com/ProductsView.asp?id=165&pid=80 (http://de.wantmotor.com/ProductsView.asp?id=165&pid=80)
the phase inductance is stated as 14mH
following the tutorial to calculate my needed power source i have to 32*(square root of 14) then... makes 134,...v
i guess im missing something again?
the steppers have 1.7A so the resistors i need are 1.7k 5% 1/4W, right? i could only find 1.8k ones... could i use those?

The fact that your motors aren't any good?
Even at 36V, they should run much faster with the G540 than with the chinese board.
You could gain another 20% speed by going with a 48V power supply, but replacing the motors would probably be a better option.
The 1.8 resistor should be fine.

What kind of machine is this? What is the drive system(s).

it is a DIY eshapeoko i assembled. it is belt driven on the X and Y axis and uses a leadscrew on the Z axis
i found a NEMA23 Motor on the geckodrive site which is recommended for the gecko540

unfortunately if i do the maths again i get a higher needed voltage than the allowed 50v since the motors have 3.6mH

That formula is to get the maximum rpm out of the motor. With the direct belt drive, you don't need anywhere near the max rpm. I'd try your existing motors and see how they work before buying new ones.
If you do want to replace them, look at Automation technologies (Keling) if you want to save a few bucks.
