LATEST BDC SERVO DRIVES AND USB/ETH. MOTION CONTROLER
« on: April 29, 2024, 03:16:44 AM »
Hi,
I need to update my old cnc router I built a few years ago. its using some cheap indian servo drives (loose steps at direction changes) and a bitsensor usb motion controller (not as bad as some people claim).
I would like new drives and controller. However Ive been out of the "scene" for a good few years and obviously there is a lot of new products ,and previous products no longer available.
I am not a millionare! so guys, what would you advise? (im in the UK). Previosly I have used gecko 320/340 and cncdrive DG4S-16035. both still available but probably dated now. I have also used cncdrive uc300 usb & ethernet motion controllers.
I have played with hybrid stepper set ups but again they dont seem to change direction properly and loose steps. The power needs to be around 150watts and rpm around 3k
What would be your go to? should I update to brushless or ac servos?
thanks in advance
  Tony

Dependant on loading but steppers often struggle above 2000 rpm so if you really need 3000 rpm then ac servos are the way. The CNCDrive UC300ETH would be my preferred motion controller.

If you have used and are familiar with tuning a servo and you are SURE that the motors are in good condition, the DG4S or G320 good options.  But keep in mind that those are high-maintenance motors and closed-loop steppers or AC servos are so inexpensive now.  So be sure to balance this out.

Check the C76 for using the UC300ETH on servos or systems with feedback as we have connector boards that tap directly into the fault and enable signals.  So it allows for a clean wiring:
