General Mach Discussion / Re: G41 giving unexpected move
« on: December 04, 2012, 05:10:20 PM »
When using the G41/42 you MUST allow at least the distance of the tool radius for Mach3 to make the correction move. IF it does not have the proper distance to work with it attempts to make the correction, possibly with the J or S move.

Not having seen what the code looks like that is a guess as to what is happening.

Just a thought, (;-) TP

G-Code, CAD, and CAM discussions / Re: Print file to CAD/Gcode

You are not the first to think of that trick.. You print the file out as a plot file or HPGL print file then import the hpgl to CAM then back out as a DXF.

YOU would be surprised at what you can find over at teh achives of the mach3 yahoo site.

IF someone that was putor savy could download the messages and put them into a data base format that could be searched it would be a killer application.

I have about half of the messages that art responded to downloaded but don't have the time/space to work on it.

IT would be a HUGE space requirement to get them all.  BUT there are TONS of good stuff in those pages.

THe book I started was labled  "And then Art Said" Even had the cover page layed out.

The problem with overburn is you have to be able to control the plasma as it crosses the kerf gap. The only thing you can do with mach3 is turn OFF the THC control as you approach the end of circle/beginning of overburn move AND with mach3 there is a dwell in motion if you try that.

Now you can always turn OFF the thc as you "begin" the circle as that dwell would not effect the cut quality as you cross the kerf gap, MAYBE.

ANother option would be to program a dwell at the end of the cycle (no leadout) and let the arc finish the cut.

Brian and TOM at CandCNC worked on a solution to eliminate the dwell, can't say for sure how it worked out. but I think they fixed it.

SHees I gave you  the important numbers target Vel and accel model numbers. Just apply those numbers against the weight the WEIGHT of your gantry.

To get best results you gear the axis for the ratios that give the best responce for accel/speed. It does no good to be able to rapid at 1000 if your accel never lets you get there cutting.

Acell in plasma IS the most important so you juggle gearing to get teh best torque at teh rpm range you plan to run in without stalling the motors

Next teh Z HAS to be fast accel/speed wise in order for the THC to keep up responce wise  to slow and you drag the tip a lot, too fast and you get into oscilations from the axis outrunning the thc and overshooting.

IF you use an arc  leadin and a very short arc leadout you get what you are asking for automatically. It will trim the tail of the leadin as the leadout pulls out BUT as a very short leadout it shuts off the torch before it blows out crossing the kerf gap.

IF you use a overburn path you will be trying to cut in an OPEN kerf gap.

AND those other fellows in the pictures were your band of merry men?  ALL this while I never put your first name with your last name.

That is a HOOT.

General Mach Discussion / MachTrick #649

I don't know IF I ever mention this trick. It allows yoou to create a button that records your points in a points file.

'Macro Record Points
Message"New Point"
Zmv= (GetDro(2)+.0001)
Code"G31Z"&Zmv
While Ismoving()
Wend
Message"Point Recorded"
End

You would open the points file with a M40 call at the MDI.  Then you assign a name for the file.

Next jog or move to a point to be recorded, press the button. Next move /jog to the next point and repeat,press the button. Each time you press the button MACH3 records the xyz points to the point file.

When you are done then at the MDI type M41 to close the file.

Works fine when nothing else will quite do the job. Can be use as a simple MACH3 DMM.

20-35 IPS/S gives good cuts. The faster the better.  A lot depends on what the motor torque is and how much the gantry weighs VS overall gear ratio.
