I have been informed that Mach3 can only handle 1 pulse per main spindle rotation. I understand that this may cause issues with screw cutting and make's multi start threads a no go area.

That is not true and you can do multi start threads ...if...if .....your lathe "system" is accurate.
As noted by Russ and Hood, accurate / consistant spindle rpm will help along with adequate power so there is no slow down of the spindle.
For a single thread you can tolerate some small spindle change but with multistart .....the error will just show up and you'll have pitch problems.

You will find info on multi threading in the Threading on the Lathe write up in Members Doc's. see page 13 &14.
What i did know is in the write up.
I was barely able to do a good two start thread and three just didn't work for me here.
You want to see inaccuracy just scribe test and measure.
The # thing didn't work if I remember correctly and if you look at the code on page 14 you'll see that I just shifted the start point.
Been a few years since i tested.

Can you take a nice picture of the drive inside your controller and post it?

Nick,
I just a take quick look at the speed and feed info you will find in link below and use past experience.

FWIW ........................
There are a number of calculators out there and I am sure they all do a mathematical great job.
Cleveland was leader back in the old days and actualy published their works.
The only real testing over time, and that was for machining different types of steel, was done by SME ( Society of Manufacturing Engineers)
and provided factors to be taken into take account when calculating.  I have noticed that some / many of the insert manufactures use what SME published.
Out of curiousity I went through a whole bunch of calculations to see what values one should use and will just say that it realy becomes "subjective" since there is no hard guidance on the assumptions one could use when calculating. We designers / engineers tend to be conservative in approach.

So what I elude to is to use any advanced calculator as a guide with consideration taken into account for your systems / tooling capabilities.
In the end nothing beats some basic testing especialy for different materials.

Foot in mouth and off to the side, :)

Run the driver test again, you will see a file called..... DriverTest.exe....... in the directory Mach was installed.
then,
Open Mach and change motor settings per attached pic, save settings, exit Mach and reopen.
I know it's different than what Tweakie said but in your video that is not how they were set and that is what i found in the manual.
So give it try and see how it goes.

Rimmel,

Do an internet search "Right Triangle Formulas"
Similar for arc's

You'll definately find something that suites your math understanding.

General Mach Discussion / Re: Code Whoe's Lathe
« on: January 22, 2014, 06:29:04 AM »
Katoh,
I am thinking your problem is use of Mastercam and i can't help you with that. I would think that Mc has all of what you want to do, maybe not, and maybe you haven't mastered mastercam yet. You should be able to request a lathe pp for Mach3 Diameter mode ( if that is what you want) from Mc.

Contacting Mc or the seller you purchased it from for the pp.

There are differences in the gcode dialects of different software controllers and one must know what they are if they want to manualy change the gcode of a program for use by a different controller.

Does W8 allow you to have a dual boot ie; can install XP on a partition and run XP?
