General Mach Discussion / Re: Mach3 and the THC...

Ok, tricky one to assess but it stopped with a DRO of 14.80, I moved to the same point as it took that reading from and used a pair of callipers to get a reading of 15.00mm then dropped it using G0 Z1.00 and using a set of feeler gauges got a reading of 1.2mm so something is off here.

I will check the actual physical position today but it is running V.067, always has been.

Oops ;)

Ah well, needed answering :)

Even programming it to 100% of the actual feedrate, the machine still move the Z axis up and down during the cut by the THC.

It would do that - setting 100% is telling it you are ok at any speed.

Mine is set at 70% i think - if my code commands a feed rate of 4000mm/min but Mach3 computes it needs say 2000mm/min or 50% of my commanded rate for a corner it will stop the THC for that contour and resume it as soon as the machine accelerates to more than 70% again.

General Mach Discussion / Mach3 and the THC...

Ok, possibly not in the right forum for this and it's not a Mach gripe for certain but...

On my plasma, I have the Z axis homed to the plate surface at every start, Z axis is controlled by the THC as normal (CandCNC MP3000-DTHC2) during the cut and the last line of the code is G0 Z15 which should park the torch at my safety height.

What it does though is park it at Z15 +/- and difference in the THC readout, so if the cut ended with the torch at 1mm lower than it started, it parks at Z14 not Z15.

Is there an easy to explain reason this could be??

Its like the THC is updating a work offset or something during the cut rather than just issuing up & down commands.

General Mach Discussion / Re: Kernel speed change

Thanks Peter, that makes sense now.

I have not changed the speed yet, wanted to verify the new pc was working before messing,  I am going to go through the settings today and run some more tests.

Hopefully it will settle down.

Hmm, this one is a GX620 and i have a GX520 in the cupboard as spare.

Will check it again tomorrow, today was a bit rushed as i had a job to cut and also had to rush out.

This one sort of went blind, I could jog it but not ref all or run any code, odd.

Reloaded Mach and got the job done ok.

Hmm, changed the PC and updated the the software to be exactly like the old PC that failed, did not change the Kernel speed yet, all appears OK to a point but not as stable now?

Mach went into reset in the middle of a test cut and also appeared to freeze while doing nothing once.

Will have another check tomorrow but not out out of the woods yet I think :(

It's a different make PC, last one was some generic junk clone and this is a Dell Optiplex with tons more power and ram etc not sure what else to check????
