I got the encoder all figured out  . Not certain which is A and B channel yet, but will know soon. A friend suggested I look up the data sheet for the chip and it cleared it all up. This is a great link to a wealth of info.   http://www.datasheetcatalog.com/datasheets_pdf/L/M/3/3/LM339N.shtml

Color code is probably, Blk Gnd, Red Pos, White A, Blu B, Grn Sig Gnd maybe Index is there a index ring on the disk ?

Chip, as far as I know this is correct. Not certain which is A and B channel yet, but will know soon. Green is the index pulse.

Brian's wife had the baby.
    This is Brian's second child. It's a boy. Timothy Michael Barker 8Lbs 3oz. 21.5 inches long. He arrived on the 24th in good health and mom is doing well too. I have attached a picture of the little fellow.
