General Mach Discussion / Re: Spindle output #5 #6
« on: February 11, 2011, 07:02:47 PM »
The wife says I don't remember things but I do know that when I changed spindle output to #1 it went back to #5 several times, now it doesn't?

The version I am using is 3.042.020. So what version do I use. I thought I was loosing my mind there for a while....

I tried the stop program function when I was running the program at 40in/min and It stopped great, but wouldn't start again, no errors.

Quote from RAY.L

With servos, this should not be a problem, unless you're moving fast enough that when the step pulses stop the axis coasts far enough, due to inertia, to trigger a servo fault due to exceeding the maximum allowable following error.  Barring that, it should overshoot, then quickly return to the position Mach3 thinks it's in.  On my servo-driven knee mill, I can usually hit Stop without losing position, even when doing a rapid.  The same is NOT true of steppers, however.

The DSPMC breakout board matches the Mach3 pin#s. I only have 8 outputs on the board, 1-6 are used for enable, 0 for digit trig, and that leaves me with output 1 to use for spindle cw ( I do need a ccw as well) As I said, If I change It to 1 and not 5  in the spindle setup box, It works until I turn off.

General Mach Discussion / Spindle output #5 #6

First, can I change m03 output #5 and make it #1 output? I did and it worked until I turned Mach3 off, then it defaulted back to #5?

I tried using the program stop but couldn't restart the program. By the way. Don't understand the program stop function, never seen it on any CNC's. Most, if not all have cycle start and feedhold. If you want to terminate the program press the reset which is not a e/stop and your drives are still on, then depending on your parameter settings it will cancel all offsets, g41.42, canned cycles etc.

Yes I got thinking about it and it's correct, It should remember the last commanded speed just like any Fanuc.
Now if I could only get my bloody VFD to work(Mits, A500 with 300 parameters)
Mike, you use the DSPMC don't you? I am talking with Rufi about the dog slow acc/dec when I press feedhold, It's painfull.
I am running 30inch/lb SEM motors with Servo dynamics drives. rapids and jog works great, can stop he motors on a dime but in feedhold it's soooo slugish it's not funny. Rufi said they will try to fix it in the next few months, does everybody have this problem?
The machine I am working on is mine and that's ok, but I do have a customer wanting a control on a big lathe and I couldn't sell the DSPMC like that.

Just setting up my VFD so just jumpering out the spindle forward at the moment. When I send analogue voltage M03 through my DSPMC I get the correct voltage, I then press M05 it cancels my output signal and  I can disconnect the jumper to stop the spindle but I still have the voltage output on my analogue board and it stays there until I reset/Esp. I think this is correct that the control remembers the last speed command?

dspMC/IP Motion Controller / Re: Research For My upcoming Build
« on: February 04, 2011, 11:16:16 PM »
I had no success with my Fanuc drives. There is a new version now and updates, and Rufi is very helpful. I haven't tried to run on Fanuc again, still a bit nervous, don't want to spend the $2000. to repair the drive. Machmotion haven't tried Fanuc, I would like to find somebody who has run Fanuc and DSPMC. I am using it now with servo dynamic drives and SEM DC motors and it looks good.  You wont find any better motors and drives that Fanuc, that's why I wanted to go that route, Lot's of dead Fanuc systems out there. That must be an old unit with Acramatic 850? Your drives must be analogue +-10V?
DSPMC will not work with digital drives.
I will have to look at my notes from last year. The 500/750 Arrow with PC based control was a nice unit, I think control Techniques from the UK, then the other one with the Vickers control, both out of business now. There is a company called Maintenace Technologies that use "machine Mate" control for there retrofit on Cinci machines, have you checked them out.

This first unit is for my machine, then I would like to build some for my customers but the first thing they are going to say when the see that is, What the F@4C& is that doing. I have a Milltronics with a 386SX and motion board that stops in feed hold on a dime.
Hurco,Autocon, Cinci, Centurian, all PC based with motion boards, and they stop instantly in feed hold, we are only talking 40inch/min here. If I was going to loose postion, I would loose it in jog at 120inch/min right.
My experience with PC integration sucks, but I have been around CNC machine tools for over 30 years.
Hood you have experience with steppers, I don't. Correct me If I am wrong, the reason people go with servos is because you don't loose a position.
I have enjoyed this build and yaking with you guys, but this is a major setback. It is like I am  setting up 2 systems and they are not talking to each other, I hope it's just a parameter.
