General Mach Discussion / Re: Blue Screen of Death
« on: November 05, 2012, 05:15:08 PM »
I'll go check the jumpers on my board and see what micro stepping I do have. Would that cause it to carve so small? I'm using Vcarve pro and never had this issue. I setup a piece 6"x 6" with a 2" tall A in the center. When it carved, which I just did in a piece of pine, it scaled down to 1" x 1" with an A of 3/8" tall. All the scaling you mentioned is set at 1.
Thank you for your help! Mike

Thank's for the reply. My steps per unit is set at 1800, the velocity is 35 and accel at 30 on all axis. Where is the scaling located? I can't find it. Also the settings screen shows inches.
I did a small test carve simulation of a 2" letter and it was carving one about less than half that size.

General Mach Discussion / Blue Screen of Death

Well, just got my operating system and Mach3 reinstalled after I encountered the dreaded "Blue Screen of Death". Like a dummy, I didn't record my Mach3 settings last time and it's been over a year since I've had to do this. I'm recording everything this time though. My problem is that my machine is apparently moving in metric instead of inches. I told Mach to move it 1" and it only moved 1/4". I thought my steppers sounded funny. I set the inches first thing. It still is saying it's in inches, but if it moves 1/4 of that, isn't that in metric? I'm running the 305 steppers from Hobby CNC and 10 single start screws.
Thanks Mike

I know what you mean. None of this stuff is cheap. But compared to some of the other software and the features this has, it's pretty reasonable for the money. It's all I'll probably ever need. But still didn't really want to spend the money on it right now. I've got a few sign orders to do, so really didn't have a choice. I used to freehand them. This will be nice not having to do that anymore.

Would I be smart to buy the VCarve pro manual? I think the one they've got for sale is for 5.5, but do you think it would be a wise purchase anyway?

Thanks Mike

Well that explains that. I was going to buy it anyway, but thought I'd give it a try to see if it was as good as everyone says it is. And It is. I thought it was strange that my Cut2d ran steady and his VCarve didn't. Man, this was starting to drive me crazy.   Now I have to learn how to read G-code. Thank's for the help.

Went and bought VCarve Pro 6. Did an inside profile on some large letters, an the Z was steady. Must have been bad code. All is good now, Thank you for the help.

Thanks Mike

Here ya go Tweakie. This was done in a profle tool path. I noticed when I did a dry run the Z was creeping up and then sometimes it would drop. I made some letters in my Cut2d in an inside profile tool path and the Z stayed steady as a rock. The only time it raised and lowered was going from one letter to another. Which I think is what it should be doing. Correct?

Thanks Mike

How do I go about posting that?

I just went and checked, and I was wrong. It is set in the CV mode, but distance and feed rate are off. The letters I am cutting were designed in a friends Vcarve Pro software.
