G-Code, CAD, and CAM discussions / Re: G40, G41 and G42 have no effect.

Are you hand coding this or using software to generate the code?
If software , what is the program?

works great as long as you do not enter moves that are shorter than the amount of backlash you have

Suggest you post on the Warp9 site and have the above clarified as i would interpret  it only applies to a commanded move via the MDI
or using the jog buttom. If true, then on reversal with Gcode lines in a program it would not be an issue. If false then the backlash as implemented is ...well... rather useless and don't think Greg would put it out that way.

General Mach Discussion / Re: Most Recommended USB Controller

I would like to start out simple with a 3-axis machine to get my feet wet, but I don't want to have to shell out more money for controls when I eventually move to 4 and 5-axis.

Consider building your owne controller. Think hard about what you may want to do in the future and decide if you want to go with
steppers or servos as that determines what kind of drives you will purchase. You can just add drives over time if the power supply is adequate thus investing more as time goes on, but, the basic stuff is in place and no need to repurchase or start from scratch.

just something to think about,

LazyTurn / Re: Making a finish pass on a radius?
« on: August 04, 2011, 06:51:47 AM »
LT generates code for arcs based on small X & Z moves ( no g02 & g03 code). If the finish pass is very fine then you will get a good
profile, but, not as good as if it the profile was done using G02 or G03. That's why a single profile code posting was requested but it
was never implemented. See appendix G in the manual as a possible work around.

More advanced programs allow you to select different parts of the profile and apply profile machining to the selection but LT is not meant
to compete with those programs so what you got for free is how it is.

I have done balls using LT that required almost no finish sanding at all.

You could create  layers  in CAD for the inside offsets and another layer for the outside offsets.  Un-enable the outside offsets in the Layer Tab, then machine the ones requiring an inside offset. Do the same / similar for the ones requiring an outside offset. That's one way of doing it since your working with say inside and outside Layers and the created chains for each are in the layer .

If everything is on one layer then you need to select what you don't want to cut by un-enabling them and you'll be left with what is enabled and offset as you wish. Just another way of doing it.

How the drawing is created can determine how LC creates the layers and associated contained chains in  the layers.
See page 10 & 11 in the manual.
Easier to set things up based on machining tasks in CAD sometimes. doing that is easier than moving chains and layers in LC.

Did you run the driver test as that installs the driver?  Do you have the port enabled in Mach along with an address?
I am assuming that you are using your former xlm file, so if it worked before...should work again if the above was done.

Where is the documentation in Mach that reveals all the exceptions to NIST RS274?
I don't know of a single controlling program out there that has that information in it's manual, but could be wrong.... ???

Mach's Gcode follows the standard rather closely, but, there are manny dialects of Gcode and companies like to have that way.
Try a read of the Mach manual and you will find almost all the Gcodes dellineated. ;)

I can't speak for Brian but heard that  the future Gcode will adhear to what the most prominent authority in the world has to say.

General Mach Discussion / Re: I Cut Profile Cutting.
« on: August 02, 2011, 06:04:09 PM »
Never heard of it myself until now. Seems like it traces the outline based on color difference and then provides a path to cut around it.
So you could do the same using CopyCat by manualy tracking  around the image and then use the generated code to cut  around it.
Surley the tracing is not as fast......but......i bet money it is way cheaper than the price of an I Cut  setup.

Hmmm....been using the Poor Man's  I Cut system for free.... ;)
