General Mach Discussion / Re: Inverter Duty Motor
« on: January 19, 2008, 09:25:23 PM »
Another thing about inverter duty motors is torque and hp constants.  If a motor has a 2:1 Torque constant and base speed of 1800rpm at 60Hz, if you were to drop it below 30Hz or 900 rpm you will lose torque and the same for the hp constant.   But most inverted duty motors have higher constants usually 20:1 so if take 60Hz/20=3 you will have full torque at 3Hz or 90 rpm.  There are also 1000:1 motors.

General Mach Discussion / Re: plasma torch control

This RoHs stuff is a pain for all you in Europe,  If you plan on cutting I would say under ~40 IPM you can make one like you mentioned and it would work ok as long as you figure out how to have a clean arc voltage signal from the plasma.   Have you seen the Plug-in Brian made for a THC:http://www.machsupport.com/artsoft/plugin.htm

The higher power plasma you run the harder it will be to control it as more noise will be generated and if the arc fires above the material too high the voltage will spike high also.

I meant fast like ~200 IPM and staying with in 1 volt of the ~250 volts of the arc.

To make a THC that actually works fast is a very complex task, commercial THC's cost ~$8k but here is one that people say works just as good or even better: http://www.candcnc.com/MP1000C.htm.

I will be buying one them in a little bit as soon as my plasma table frame is finished.

Mach will control a laser just fine, just get the plugin here:
http://www.machsupport.com/artsoft/plugin.htm

You will need to have motor controllers that take step direction signals and thats pretty much it.

With the plugin one of the pins outputs a PWM signal to control the laser on time.
I bought a Sharplan 40 watt CO2 laser to build a engraver cutter just don't have a need for it right now, so haven't built it.

Put the code up so we can see what it's doing,  also if you need .75 and your code says .75 you will need to add for clearance over the material, so make you commanded depth .8 or so.

Are you using the electronics from the HD also or a regular rc brushless drive?  Thanks for sharing!!

Did you do the anodizing your self?

109
Thats sweet!! Are those magnets that hold it together?

That's a trick idea!
