Title: Digitizing Probe.Any hints?
Post by: Keith on April 25, 2006, 09:17:27 PM
Hey people.I just bought one of these babies : http://www.cadcamcadcam.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=10
Anyone know any short cuts to getting her up and running.Documentation was slim.
Dying to try out the 'digitizing wizard' with it in M3.-Keith

All you have to do is hook it up like it was a limit switch :)  Under the ports and pins you need to sett the probe to the correct port and pin. Hope that helps

Oh okay. Thanks Brian. So it has two 'normally closed' switches and so I choose a pin that I'm not using on the P-port,right and ...is there a prefered set of pins say for that digitizing wizard that art has in Mach3?I don't recall the wizard asking for wheree to look for closure. And no pull up resistors are needed on these pins?-Keith

you can pick any input pin and set the pin to the "probe" pin... as long as you do that you will be good to go

Okay, this may be an obvious but I have two ,'normally closed'(to shield) output leads on the probe. I see only one pin available in Mach3 as assignable for probe. What am I missing?-Keith

The shield should go to ground and the two others should be hooked to the common and Input pin.

(Keith scratches head)You mean the two leads are the actual switch and the shield is just a noise reduction type ,case ground? So for the leads(not the shield)I use the 'common' ground of the parallel port and then just pick an input pin is what you're saying.Sorry to be so confused by this.-Keith

Oh and the shield is like 'case ground'?Not the ground for the port?-Keith

I am looking at buying  probe for use with mach 3. Does the probe only need a single contact?
Thanks
