General Mach Discussion / Re: G76 Lathe Theading Problem

I tried that but it is too much work and I do not see how that would help.  Maybe you can explain this in more detail.

Sure will, if you will just listen!

If we are both using the generic lathe screen, using the same code generated by the same source, using the same operating system we are on common ground. I can review your configuration, go through basics in a logical order and find where your problem is without guessing. I will add that we don't have to deal with a custom screen set that you are using............haven't the foggiest what was done in that screen set.......just want eliminate many possibilities that a custom screen set can create.

Just offering help to you one more time.........
If you want it just say YES or NO.

If YES, then you have the community at your disposal,  if NO then your on your owne.

What more can one say,

Stephan,

I am sure the extra time was worthwhile. Thanks for sharing your work.
I'll check it out and give you feedback.
I'll be using  Mach3 version R3. 043.062 since that is the basis for my screen set.

BTW, It's nice to have someone do some lathe work.

I'm really disappointed that nobody can help understand why it stopped working.

If you followed advice given, rather than picking and choosing to rationalize what
what makes sense to youself, you would be farther along.

Consider the following:
1. You were using a version of Mach which has problems along with improper code.
2. You were using an unlicensed copy of Mach. Threading does not work in unlicened
   / demo mode.
3. You were asked to use the standard screen set. Didn't even bother to configure it
and of course it won't work then.

Understand that when something is not working you go back to BASICS and confirm
things in a logical way so that there is no need for guessing. That allows others
to duplicate each step as you go through the process of elimination / confirmation.

Manny times from experience we can give that single fix, but when the variables are
many we need to go through a process.

Mach4 General Discussion / Re: Backlash not applied during manual JOG?

with 7.62µ of backlash at the moment

That's 0.00000762"  so how did you measure that?

Maybe your units are incorrect since that's almost impossible to accurately measure.
Using a mounted 500x microscope with fical micrometer as compared to a calibrated u line scale I had trouble
measuring to down to 0.000040".

If you preload axis thrust bearings to that you won't have movement / stall. There is no such thing as "0" backlash,
maybe min BC would be  better term.

But improving to a practical min BC is certainly desirable.

i'd like to be able to keep fitting bearings after an endmill

I used BC for a long time with MACH 3. Yes you can use the mill that has backlash and be able to just slip that bearing into what is cut,
but, you need to adjust both the BC settings and your code, and even with dong that,.....it's only good for a particular operation.

I don't know where BC implementation is relative to MACH4 or current external motion controllers. So can't help you there.

Take this advice:
Your machine is what it is, you either accept it's limitations or make improvements. Do yourself a favor and get rid of the
BC ( oh, BTW, there is no such thing as "0" backlash ).

Glad it's now working.

For multiple installation of mach versions:

I just rename the C:Mach3 folder to say Z66MACH3 and then just install the version I want to the default C:Mach3.
Easy to copy over  to the new version whatever I want fro some version ie; licenses.

This keeps everything separated, yet available should you want to return to a version.

Just a thought,

Is the x axis enabled under ports and pins configuration?
Use  the y cable to the x axis to confirm it is  port problem, if it is, then use two different input pins.
If the drives are those Chinese ones.....sorry I can't assist you.

Pay for the forum...........not sure we  we want to get like IMS!

Just post the darn problem, give basic information on the system your using, answer questions asked, then do what is suggested.

Consider just using even spaced nails instead of the bars in the basin. Easy replacement if cut through.
That's what my friend did when he built his. Have a drain on the bottom pan to get rid of the water.
A cheap exhaust fan using pvc pipe for duct with 4 clear vinyl draw down curtains keep any fumes in location. Not sure how big, but, a base / legs  for it which folds along with casters allow you to store upright and get out of the way when not in use.
Consider using the base along with a lip to hold a spoil board and making an attachment for a router....now you can have a multi purpose machine.

FWIW,
When the floor and sides of the room provide no room it's time to use the ceiling. :D
I also add that, try as I may, you just can't put 2 ft3 into 1 ft3....but dumbo here still tries! ;D
