My next task is to get the macro to stop if I want to terminate it.

From my experience, the only way to reliably terminate a macro is with an "Exit Sub" call.
I actually do an Estop in some of my macro's when I need to exit them, as it was the most reliable method in some cases.

No, not really. I've had a few people ask me how to make it compatible with ATC's, but I'm not sure if anyone actually has.

You could just use two plates, and let Mach3 zero the Z after every tool change like everyone else does.

Your other option would be to enter their lengths in the tool table, and use G43 in your code to offset them properly. You'd probably want to create a new macro to measure the tool and enter it into the tool table. If the tools are in holders, and you don't change them often, then it's probably easier to just manually measure them.

Are you using the parallel port? If so, what operating system?
Sounds like you have the wrong port address, a bad cable, or an OS that Mach3 won't work on (64  bit)?

does the edge probing function in the same way as Z. probes once, backs off and probes again?
It can do it either once or twice. If the Slow Feedrate is 0, then it probes once. If you set a slow feedrate, it probes twice.

Your .xml is the file being saved. Yes, you can just copy it.

What i've done so far is move the tool against the side of the part, zero it and then g0 x0.125 for example

If you do this, your not setting zero to the edge of the part. Your setting zero .125 away from the edge.
Unless you lift the tool, and move .125 over the edge, then zero it.

The DRO actually shoes it dropping? Can you post some sample g-code that does this?

You might want to try 3.043.062, as .066 is known to be very buggy.

typing into the coordinates DRO doesnt move it.
You don't need to move it.
If you have a 1/4" bit, and you jog up against the part, the center of the bit is at 0.125. You type that into the coordinate DRO, and the edge of the part becomes zero.

Unfortunately, Mach3 doesn't support tool tips. All the icons are listed in the manual.

General Mach Discussion / Re: Stepper Servo Hybrids with Mach 3
« on: October 20, 2015, 08:50:35 AM »
1) Steppers are designed to run hot. There's no harm in them in them being hot. Not sure if these "hybrid" motors actually run cooler, because they are still steppers.

2) True, but I can't hear my steppers when the machine is cutting.

3) Your machine will require a certain amount of torque to achieve a certain performance goal. That torque doesn't change with a stepper or servo. To utilize a smaller servo, it must run at much higher rpm, and you need to add appropriate gear reduction.

4) My stepper driven gantry machine has never racked in the 7 years it's been running.

In my opinion, steppers with encoders is a fix to a problem with the user, not the machine.
A properly setup and maintained stepper driven machine should not lose steps, ever.

People lose steps mainly for one of two reasons.

1) They want the machine to go faster than their steppers are capable of. Adding "servo steppers" to this situation will result in drives that fault, rather than lose steps. Your losing steps from a lack of power. Adding the same size motors will still leave you with an underpowered machine.

2) There's a problem somewhere with the electronics. THis could be anything from the PC or mach3 not outputting signals properly, all the way to drives that are prone to resonance.

THese "hybrid" systems are not exactly cheap. For not much more money, you can get a real servo system which should provide much better performance, if the servos are sized properly.
