I would advise against setting the Soft Min X and Y and softMax Z to anything other than 0. The reason for this is twofold, firstly evey time you home you will need to turn Off the SoftLimits or it will be outwith the softlimits when you home. Secondly there is no real reason to do so. When you home a machine it moves to the limit and then backs off so that the limit is closed again and this is your machine coords zero. If you set the soft min to zero then the softlimits will stop your machine before it hits the switch. Obviously if you are doing a full rapid then it would hit the switch as the motors would not have time to deccelerate, that is why you set up a slow zone. The distance you set for the slow zone will depend on each ndividual machine as each machine has different accelleration/decceleration. Once a slow zone is set then when you kog or move towards an axis it will start to slow down but will continue until the SoftMin is reached and you will not be able to go any further.

Edit
also your Soft Max for S should be sero and Soft Min for Z will be the travel of the Z axis but in a negative number fo for instance if there is 6 inch travel Soft Max will be zero and SoftMin will be -6.
