General Mach Discussion / Re: SCHP vs Hardware Disable E-Stop
« on: June 13, 2022, 12:48:47 AM »
You are right Craig, following my post I did some search to educate myself on charge pump and I came to the same conclusion. Perhaps in some cnc depending on the use a charge pump may serve a purpose but for the rest a good E-Stop along with a good design it’s all you need.

Cheers

General Mach Discussion / SCHP vs Hardware Disable E-Stop

Using Mach3 I’m wiring a C11G-Rev.9 with an ESS and with my limited knowledge my understanding is that both SCHP and E-Stop wired as Hardware Disable serve the same purpose, that’s to stop all moving part on a CNC.

I understand that SCHP uses the 12.5 KHz signal which Mach3 generates but the final results are not the same?

Which one is the best alternative?

Thanks

Thanks John for the education, I will see what I can do.

Thank you John

The attached shows the work progress in my controls panel. The 1/8” aluminum plate will only hold what you see in the picture that’s just the push buttons which will control all cnc functions. On the left side of the control panel you can see the 4 drivers where I will connect the cables from the 4 stepper motors. These 4 cables are shielded and I’m talking about the shield from each motor cable which should be grounded. The star point ground is at the top right corner (not visible in the picture) and I was thinking to combine the shields from the 4 motor cables at the left and run one cable to the star point at the right. My question is I don’t know if it’s a good idea to run 1 cable to the star point or 4 (individual cables for each motor cable)

I plan to connect the cable shield from the 4 stepper motor cables to the star ground in my panel. Since these cables are located on the same side of my control panel I was thinking to connect all shield together and run 1 cable to the star ground in the opposite side of my panel.

Is this a good idea or I should run individual cables from each shield to the start point ground?

Thanks

General Mach Discussion / Re: Control Panel Size

1/8” is what I have. Let me know if the positions I have of the ESS / C11G BOB are acceptable. Never used ESS before and just wonder

General Mach Discussion / Control Panel Size

Starting the wiring for my new cnc and the attached shows the box size plus the orientation off the ESS and C11G BOB which I would like to have comments if the arrangement shown is correct or perhaps the 2 boards should be placed different. The 3” high pc for the switches will be 1/8” thick aluminum and under it will be a single 1/8” thick door.

The box is made out of 5/8” thick plywood which I have. I would have liked to make it out of 1/4" or 3/8” ply but the cost of plywood in my area is astronomical! (like anything else…).

Thank you

General Mach Discussion / Re: Anti-Backlash Nut Setting

Well Craig I will take my chance and say that’s the case. I will hand tight the nut against the bearing and tight the set screw.

Despite the “machining tolerances” we talked before the Chinese vendor I buy my stuff has been very good in the past years and actually in another cnc forum members have said they are very happy with him.

Cheers

General Mach Discussion / Anti-Backlash Nut Setting

In front of the shafts double bearing there is an anti-backlash nut with a set screw.

How do I set this nut and tight the set screw. Some say this nut is not needed on these screws.

Thanks
