General Mach Discussion / Re: THC Settings in Mach
« on: September 23, 2011, 04:33:19 PM »
OOOPS mistake it does NOT use an encoder but  resistance values. Same thing only different(;-).

HUM I wonder IF you could use an encoder and a small servo drive to feed the up/down signal to mach3 .. ?????

Set up a simple linear encoder to feed the drive then use the drive outputs to feed the MACH3 thc inputs Up/down. You would have to put a dummy load on the drive and maybe use the DIR change of the motor signal to trigger up down????

Look in the early mach2mill_6.11  Manual SECTION 6.2.13 . It gives a decent explanation of the THC process in general.

You job will be to create a controller that takes the encoder value and then set up a simple servo type loop to feed the THC UP/Down inputs back into MACH3.  It has to read the value then ACT on the value, Sending an up or down signal to Mach3. Mach3 will then COMP the Z up or down. At the same time your controller has to be watching the encoder values and STOP MACH3 when the value gets to the setpoint value. Not an easy task to do correctly to prevent oscilations of Zaxis

This means your controller has to be able to also establish the SETPOINT value based on the starting Z height and the encoder value at that point.

Easy as pie clear as mudd ?? , (;-)TP

NOT really GOOD thieves KNOW how to manipulate the system to their advantage. Some of the greatest theiveries in historywere done in play veiw of all that got duped.

End of story, (;-) TP

" I can't justify buying a license after I was fortunate to receive this one. "

In the same Line of thought. I can't JUSTIFY helping someone after they have repeatedly tried to Skirt around the very essence of the MACH3 community. Fairness and equity in  action.  Everyone here volunteers THEIR time to help other MACHeteers BECAUSE the founders of ArtSoft volunteered MANY thousands of hours at little return to INSURE this generation as well as future generations of DIY CNCers had a quality MACHINE control product to work with. THE WHOLE essence of MACH3 is about FAIRNESS, HONESTY and TRUST.

SO far you have broken all 3.

GOOD LUCK with your endeavors, You will need it.

Might want to consider the G31 probing routine to do the Wheel diam function. The G31 sets the trip point on the way INTO the shape and is deadly accurate. and repeatable.

Just a thought, (;-) TP

Thanks Rich it was created from an X/Y points file that was converted straight to DXF from inside MACH3 using CB. Hopefully it will be a HELP to those who do 2.5D probing and need a way to get the points into a CAD format for further processing.

PoKeys / Re: M code Pauses Machine while running G-code

The way that is done in the real world is to set up a phantom axis say C. Then use the direction pin as the trigger to turn the sprayer ON or off. This method is used by the laser group to do HIGH speed control of the ON/OFF of the laser WITH no delays. AS the code is part of the loaded buffer it runs at the speed of the Gcode with NO delays.

Mach USED to have a useable High speed output function BUT it is broken.

Keith, (or anybody else)  could you give this DXF file a try to see IF BobCad, OR any other CAD, can open it ok.

It should be the import of the points file you sent.

IF you only have MAX 1 inch of travel then I don't think trying to Tcomp a 1.5"radius wheel is going to work well (;-).   When you say Bobcad do you mean  BOBCAD/CAM or just CAD?

Some CAMs have a problem Tool comping and OPEN profile as it is HARD for it to tell what is INSIDE or OUTSIDE to comp TO.

A test we did long while back took a 100 line section of Gcode  and ran it 2 ways.

1 as straight Gcode.

2 as Macro code with all the While Ismoving() to maintain control.

There was a NOTICABLE difference in the 2 programs . The Gcode only program ran a smooth as silk as Mach loaded the buffer full . The Macro ?? NOT so smooth as if Mach was running it ONE line at a time and then wait and run another line of code.

I have a POLAR probing array that will gather  9,801 points per session as a Gcode program it runs smooth as silk running as fast as you dare to try. As a macro it is PAINFULL to watch it run.

May be time to try it again(;-), (;-) TP
