Mach3 problems
« on: August 02, 2018, 08:38:49 PM »
I have had Mach3 installed on 2 pc for awhile. The one in the house is a Vista pc I installed to do some prelim work. The other pc in my shop is a windows 7 pro that is also hokked up the my cnc router. I haven't used either in awhile and wanted to start again. When I tried to load Mach3 on the Vista machine, the shortcut was dead and I can't find the ese file anywhere on the pc. When I tried to load it on the windows 7 pro machine, the Artsoft logo appears and then the pc reboots. What's up with that?

Hi,
not sure about your development PC but the machine PC sounds like a recent Window 7 update
has caused a fault. There have been a lot of posts about it over the last couple of months.
I think there is a patched version of .062 which solves it. The machine PC should be kept off the internet
so it cant update, the last three monthly updates have caused Mach to reboot as you describe.

Hi,
I may have lead you astray....there is a patch .062 to cure a problem with Window 10 updates.
There are issues with Windows 7 updates also, it may be neccessary to manually remove the updates.
A search should reveal the thread or threads that discuss it.

This deals with Window 10 updates:

This mentions the Windows 7 updates:

Check with Byranna, she seems to be keeping an eye on developments.

I haven't used Mach3 in awhile. Tried to start it up and computer reboots. Asked on this forum and was told about Windows update problems. I tried to uninstall them. One went away very easily, another would not go away. I did a system restore to April 2018. Problem still exists. Now I'm told I may have to purchase a $110.00 part to make it work. This part "MIGHT" fix the problem. Anyone have any more ideas? I can't keep throwing money at a problem.

I don't know if this is any help but...
For Mach3 I use WinXP and my CNC machines are operated by dedicated PC's which are not connected to the internet or receiving updates.

What does that mean? I mentioned I have Windows 7 right? I don't understand your answer.

You don't have a lot of options here, as Mach3 is basically a 10 year old, unsupported program.

You could switch to Windows 10, and get a motion controller, but there's no guarantee that Microsoft won't break it again.

Or you can run Windows XP.

Or you can leave Mach3 behind and move onto something more modern, and well supported.
