Problem with "Ref All Home"
« on: June 20, 2018, 10:27:32 AM »
Hi All,

I have a CNC machine from Marchant Dice or World Of CNC. By and large it has been trouble free for the last few years but in the last few weeks the control box has been acting up and today when I click "ref all home" the Z-axis moves to its limit, the switch is fired (red light comes on), but it then reverses direction and travels downwards making a funny noise. Please see the youtube video for a demonstration!

I've cleaned off the homing switches and fiddles with cables, switched things off and on - basically done everything I can. Please help!!

When you say that the control box has been acting up, what else had been going wrong ?

Intermittently but more frequently when I turn the Superbox on, the lights don't come on, on the front panel. Using the jog dial I can't get anything to move. So I'm assuming no signals are being sent/received. If I turn the box on and off, take the cables out and put them back and do that enough times, the lights come on and I again have control.

Sorry for being so ignorant!

Hi,

No apologies necessary, we would all just like to help to resolve the problem you are experiencing.

It sounds to me like something is badly amiss within the control box.

Initially I suggest you give the inside a thorough visual inspection, checking the integrity of all soldered connections, the seating of any plug connections and the tightness of all screw connections. Look expecially for any wires that are poorly soldered. Then, with a Multimeter set to continuity, check the integrety of all external multicore cables and their associated connectors. Take your time, the object is to find a defect and it could be as simple as just one wire which has become disconnected.

A couple of photos of the inside of the control box may be helpful.
