Mach 4 System Rquirements
« on: April 07, 2017, 05:27:22 PM »
I know this has been posted before but help me out, I can't find it.

Is Mach 4 compatible with Windows 10?

Is it still compatible with Windows 7?

Is it Touchscreen enabled?

Lastly, is it better than Mach 3?

Yes, it runs under current versions of Windows 10. Microsoft may throw some
curves in the future, but expectations and intentions are to continue being
able to run under Windows 10.

Yes it still runs under Windows 7. It will even run under XP though that is not
recommended.

Touchscreen ability is a feature that needs to be provided by the operating
system and the device drivers for the touch screen itself.

A better question would be "is it touch screen friendly". The answer to that
is relatively good, but make sure the physical screen is large enough to make
it easy to hit the desired location because there is a lot on the screens.

Mach4 is better, follows industry standards more closely, is more powerful and
stable, but also a bit more complicated. Long time Mach3 users sometimes grumble
about it not being exactly like Mach3. Mach4 does not yet have as much support
from device manufacturers and software add-on vendors, but that is improving.

Thank you for the quick reply.

I'm very fond (and happy) with Windows 7 but I see where Microsoft has decided they know better than me what I like.  Buy that is another story for another forum.

I just saw Mach 4 today on a 24" monitor and really liked what I saw.  Note to self...buy a 32" monitor tomorrow & a stylus (or 2).

I'm a little older now so "bigger is better" as far as monitors go.

I think I'll roll the dice on Mach 4!

Hi,
I think Mach4 is better than Mach3. LUA is the language that 'glues' it all together and LUA is simple and yet the
subtlety, flexibility and power it conveys also makes Mach4 very flexible and powerful. Additionally Mach4 is a modern
program, written in modular style. Thus if a module is weak or faulty it can be replaced by another be it commercial
third party or your own creation.

The new style and language is more complicated to start with, you will have to invest some serious thinking/learning to
get the most out of Mach4, but when you do 'the sky is the limit'.

I use my laptop from time to time to control my mill, the buttons on the screens are small enuf that touch screen is a bit
hit and miss. A large monitor will help.

Mach4 is less dependent on the OS than Mach3. I use Win8 on my laptop and Win7 on my regular machine controller, both
work fine and I don't think the OS makes a jot of difference.

Thanks Craig,

I saw Mach 4 a few days ago and loved the interface.  I have Win 7 on my laptop & Win 10 on the machine controller desktop.

I emailed OMIOCNC & they said their machine does not support Mach 4.  Ever heard of that?

A quick look at the OMIOCNC web site confirms that all of their current
products use a USB motion controller that works only with Mach3.

It should be possible to convert one of these to Mach4 by using a
board like this:

Many low cost vendors sell machines that run only Mach3 because
they can ship it with the DEMO version of Mach3 which will cut up
to 500 lines of G-code without a license. Some even go so far as
to provide a bootleg cracked version of Mach3 along with a custom
installer which may also install malware as a bonus.

Mach4 has more stringent security requirements and the DEMO will
run for a short period of time instead of a fixed number of lines. This
makes it difficult to pretend to offer a "FREE" copy.
