MPG increment value
« on: June 06, 2016, 06:15:34 PM »
I am using Pokeys (pulse engine) with mach3 062 version so its one before latest and the pokeys plugin is from May. Its used on a VMC retrofit with DC servo drives, my steps per mm are 393,7008 (2000 rev) on 5.08mm (0.2 inch) pitch ballscrew so one encoder count is 0.00254 mm.
Problem is , among other strange behaviors with homing which I will post in separate thread, that MPG works only with increments down to 0.02 , anything lower and it will not respond to MPG.
MPG is handled trough pulse engine and everything is setup as in manual. Looking at the settings page of Mach screenset MPG1 velocity and count are responding but I get movement only when the increment is set to 0.02 or higher.

After some looking around I found that when I set my increment to 0.011 it works, while its set in mach when I look at pokeys configuration sofware under pulse engine down at the MPG it says
Multiplier : 1 .... it sure ain't one step of motor so I cant understand its value, when I set 0.1mm increment value is 9 and when its set at 1mm inc its 98 ?

Mach3 .066 fixed other issues but MPG is the same 4 steps is the lowest it will issue any movemen or ... MPG Multiplier of 1 is 4 steps, but its very smooth and as realtime as it could be.

Installed Mach4 just to try it and it allowed me to use 0.0001 increment , on the other hand I could not tune the MPG in Mach4 to behave smooth and realtime like it did handled by Pokeys in Mach3.

Someone might have an recipe for correct Velocity and Acceleration in % for the Mach4 MPG ? When does it transition from single step to velocity?

My settings for the Acceleration is 80% and the velocity 100%
I use a 4 switch rotary to change the multiplier to 0.005, 0.01, 0.05, 0.1. mm
It runs absolutely smooth except one little issue (look at my posts), but the Pokeys Team is working on it to fix it.
I did not any settings in the Pokeys App itself. Only in Mach4.
And i recommend alway to reset the device if you switch from Mach3 to Mach4 or vice versa. Otherwise you could have some strange side effects.

Look at this video.

I'm using it on a retrofit VMC , Hurco MD1 , 7000mm/min per axis and 400 on accel. before I start turning it real quick its choppy until I drop mpg accel to maybe 20 and then its not so responsive. This is in Mach4. Yes I clear all settings befor switching.

After installing the new plugin from 31.10.2016 it works better than expected ! Now it moves even in 0.005 increments

Also the problems with machine moving after switching from MPG to Continuous mode if you dont press STOP before switching is gone now.

Can't wait to look at analog Thc ability for my other machine
