converting a chinese 6040

slowly busy converting my chinese 6040 to pokeys.

received my stepper drivers today and build a quick mock-up on a piece of MDF, running each stepper at 2.5A, so each has their own fan.



The machine already sounds better, so far very happy with this  ;D

Two things I have noticed though, I now and again get a "buzz" from the motors when not moving. not always, if it buzzes and I tap the jog key, it stops.

Also, when I click "Go to Zero", they stop at X0.0031 Y0.0031 for example. Not always though, sometimes a different number, does not go to exactly 0.0000 ? Anyone else seen this ?

Anyway, so far very happy .. and also very quick shipping from the guys at Polabs, both orders pretty much arrived the next day almost !! Happy chappy !

Regarding the inaccurate 'home' position - what are you steps per unit settings? These may result in partial step that can not be executed by the device.

steps per unit is 320. 1/8 with 1605 ballscrew, 5mm pitch, so if my calculations are correct, 1600 / 5 is 320 steps per mm ?

yes, might be. doesn't always happen, sometimes it goes to 0.0000 and other times not. can you only use mach3 with pokeys or are there other software too that will work ?

I have just checked with a demo version of mach4 and it doesn't seem to happen then, so looks like only in mach3. I was wondering if the kernel speed inside mach3 has any affect on pokeys or doesn't it matter ?

The kernel speed setting of Mach3 does not affect the PoKeys device operation.
