Thermwood Conversion to Mach3
« on: May 18, 2013, 03:02:58 PM »
Need Suggestions on what hardware we need to convert an Older Thermwood c50 to Mach3.  The CNC has Big MHO ( Baldor Servos) and West Amp Drivers # 33026-5.  What Interface Boards will work with this config ??  Would we be better off changing out the Old Servos and Drives to new?  We had a 5' X 10' Omnitech with Fanuc PC Front-end, but had to sell last Fall.  So we are taking this Heavy Duty Router and trying to interface with Mach3. Any help would great !!

If I am understanding then your servo amps will be analogue +/- 10v command signal.
If that is the case then you have a few choices if you want to keep the original motors/Amps.
CSMIO/IP-A
DSPMC
Galil
Kflop with Kanalog.

Of these 4 I have used the CSMIO/IP-A and I am loving it, it is everything I have wanted and been hoping for in a controller to use with Mach.

You can find some of my postings about it here

and also the build thread of the Chiron here

You will have to make sure your servos have compatible encoders or that your amplifiers can output such signals.
