Mastercam X4 Machine Def file
« on: January 07, 2013, 10:47:17 AM »
Hi Guys,
I looking for a little help.
I have converted a small 11x29 lathe to CNC. It has a QCTP on the front.
I am using Mach 3 for the controller.
I am looking for a Machine definition file for Mastercam X4 that would match up to my lathe.
I also need to know which post-processor to select that matches up to Mach 3's capabilities.

Any help in pointing me in the right direction would be appreciated.

Thanks
Dirk

Hello, Dirk,

MasterCam themselves are the ones to ask, as it's the software companies responsibility to provide you with a proper post processor for their CAM program, and any other info for your specific machine.

That's why they get the big bucks!  ;)

Hi Dave,
Since I do not have a specific machine to give them, It would be difficult to get them to provide anything.
It is just a converted 2 axis manual lathe with a QCTP and Mach 3.
I'm sure someone is using that combination.
I'm pulling my hair out trying to figure this thing out. LOL.

Well if it's that simple then they should have no problem supplying you with a post processor as I'm sure they have one set up for Mach 3?

Have you asked them?

Here is a link of what MC has available.
http://www.mastercam.com/teachersstudents/educationaldownloads/Posts/Default.aspx
There is a file that matches but it's for version X5. I tried to load that file into X4 and it won't load. I also tried the post file  LDMaster off of emastercam.com.

Does anyone know of a way to convert an X5 machine definition file from X5 to X4?

Thanks,
Dirk

Not sure why you aren't using what you paid for in their customer support. That is part of the high price for this software and I would certainly be taking advantage of that.

I'll let you choose how you want to handle it.

HI Dave,
Thanks for your concern. I purchased this software from a departed friends wife. So I do not have this software under maintenance and can not ask MC support anything.

Thanks,
Dirk

SURE you can ask. The worst thing that can happen is they say no.
