Title: Screenset for my touch screen
Post by: Hood on May 20, 2006, 04:48:41 PM
Heres screenshots of the screen  I am working on at the moment, it will probably not be much use to most people as I have stripped away a lot of the usual controls that are in Mach and have added a lot to pages they might not normally be found.
I wanted the screen layout to be fairly simple but still look good and to my eyes I think I have managed that, it probably wont suit most tastes. It is set out the way I work which may be totally alien to most people but it suits me.
Benny has been a great inspiration in this project with his enthusiasm and brilliant tutorials. Zealouse's screen was the inspiration for mine and there are quite a lot of similarities and I have used his basic buttons but changed the text and size to suit myself.
Anyway heres the ones I have so far, first is the Program Run, then MDI and finally the ToolPath screen. I have not done the Settings and Diagnostics pages yet.

Sure, no problem at all. Be aware though that I have hot keys set up for my button panel and I am not sure if I have changed standard Hot Keys or not so test with caution.
I will try and put it up on my site in a minute and as I complete it I will update.

You can download it from here http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/hoodsmachiningpages/HoodButtons.zip
Just do the usual, unzip and place the 1024MPGcarbon.set to Mach3 folder and place the Hoodsbuttons folder in the Bitmaps folder in Mach3 directory, should work ;)

I have found an error in the script for the "Display mode"  button on the toolpath page, it should have "value" in the first and second lines, instead it has just got "val" . Edit them by adding the "ue " on the end and it should work OK.
I have also been having a look at the diagnostics page and a lot of the LEDs are screwed up. I seem to get a problem where if I do something in screen 4 it changes all the LEDs to Estop or other system functions rather than their OEM code or whatever. Its a bit of a pain as I then have to go into each individual LED and change it back by checking the OEM box or selecting its proper function from the drop down box. I thought it was only when I edited script in Mach with the screenset open at the same time in Screen 4 but this doesnt seem to be the case as it has happened since.

Shaun
Thanks, thats exactly the look I was hoping for.

I have found the cause of the above LED problem and it is indeed editing the VB script within Mach. I thought it was only if screen4 was open but it seems to be any time I edit the code,  after a restart of MACH all the LEDs are screwed up.

I have updated the zip to include the working script and LEDs, same link as above, to check you have the latest, the date and time of the "1024MPGcarbon.set" when unzipped  should be 21 May 2006 01:49

Sounds good, but what is a DRO slider control ? lol

Post by: ynneb on May 21, 2006, 06:47:36 PM
The slider will control things like spindle speed, feed rate override, axis scale etc. This will give you quicker control, instead of having to constantly push a button to scale up or down through the DRO numbers.

Something like seen in this demo http://machsupport.com/forum/index.php?topic=183.msg965#msg965

Ahhhhhhhhh that looks like it could be very handy, looks like my new screen will be all changed again LOL Have the Settings page finished now so just the  Diagnostics page to do and maybe I will make up a few more pages for a probe etc, thats if I ever manage to make my probe a bit more robust ;)

Have just updated the zip file to include the latest page to be completed, you will see below. The Diagnostics page is still all over the place with some bits changed and others not,  and will be next to be sorted.

Very functional! I like the added touch of sparkles on the Drod's.
One thing I came across is the "Load last wizard", it will open to a blank screen if you hadn't loaded a wizard, but I believe this is a Mach 3 problem
Title: Re: Screenset for my touch screen
Post by: Hood on May 22, 2006, 04:11:12 AM
The sparkle is Benny's " reflection.png"
The last wizard button will only open if you have previously used a wizard since Mach was opened. If Mach is shut down and restarted you will have to go through the wizard list.

Hi Benny, not had a chance to get the Diagnostics page sorted out yet, have added G-Code and M-Code pages, that was tricky to do as I was having problems with the background. If I didnt have it enabled for all pages then it would show the area around the buttons in the background colour, if I did have it enabled then the G and M code could not be seen. My brain then engaged first gear and I made the G and M codes into PNG's and no problem after that.

I have cleaned up my Diagnostics page and also done some alterations to other pages. I intend to make up a couple of other pages, possibly for Z Inhibit and similar operations and an Encoder page for use with the Encoder Interface board from www.rogersmachine.net
The download  link above has been updated with the latest bitmaps and .set

Thanks

Hi Vince
You need to unzip the HoodButtons folder to C:\Mach3\Bitmaps and the 1024MPGcarbon.set goes in C:\Mach3
Nice to see you here Vince ;) Any progress on the ballscrews?

Oh also make sure you have one of the later versions of Mach3 as I dont think the LEDs will work in version 1.84.

You should be able to download from the link in the fifth post. Once downloaded just unzip the hoodsbuttons folder to C:\Mach3\Bitmaps and then place the 1024MPGcarbon.set screenset in C:\Mach3. All you should need to do is then open Mach and from the view menu pick load screens and browse to the Mach3 folder and choose the screen.
Be aware that the screen is set up for the way I work and some of the hotkeys may be different from standard.

Tried your screen today, very nice but for some reason it won't work on my small touch screen 800x600, works fine on my normal screen 1024x768.
All the other screens I've tried work fine in 800x600 as long as I click the auto enlarge button in config/settings, when I tried this with your screen it squashed it all up against the top of the screen.
Any Ideas? or am I going to have to buy a bigger touch screen just to use your screen design.

Thanks

Chris

Never tried it at a smaller resolution. It was designed as 1024x768 so maybe its all it will do. I seem to remember seeing something about screen bunching when auto enlarge was used, might have something to do with the buttons I have moved off screen for future modifications. I will have a look and see if it works when I delete them.

I have found out the problem but dont know how to get rid of it. I remember when I was making the screenset I used the background that zealous had in his screen, somehow it got enlarged and I could not edit or delete it. It is on the diagnostics page and the only way I could get rid of it was by renaming the file. Unfortunately it seems that somewhere in the screenset the background is still registered as that size and I just dont know how I can edit it, maybe Benny or someone will have an idea?

Hood,

I tried your screens but can't get them to display properly. The screen seems to be all scrunched up in a narrow strip across the top of the screen about 1 1/2" wide from the top down. My screen is set at 1024x768 and I downloaded 1.9.75 with the same result. Where did I go wrong?

Go to Config then State and click the button Auto Screen Enlarge so there is no tick in the box then reload Hoods screen, it should work then.

I have found a serious error in my screen, on the MDI page the zero buttons for X and Y axis were assigned as VB script which should not have been, this could cause a serious crash if used. If anyone has downloaded my screen please make sure you either reasign these buttons in screen4 or download the folder again as I have uploaded a fixed version.

Make sure that there is not a folder within a folder, sometimes that can happen when you extract the files. What I am meaning is if you look in the HoodsButtons folder there may be another folder called HoodsButtons inside it that you have to open before you see the images.
If that is the case just copy the second folder, move back to the Bitmaps folder and paste, it will ask you if you want to overwrite just click OK.
Hope you understand what I am meaning.

Thanks for the answer, but the png files are straight in c:\mach3\Bitmaps|HoodButtons\*.png. It seems the program can't find these icons.
Mach3 will load the screen without the buttons.

Hi Andre
What version of Mach3 are you using? It may be that you have ver1.84, I think it has to be ver1.9** before .png can be used.

Hello Hood,

That's true, i'm using version 1.84.002. I can't find an 1.9 version. On the machsupport.com site it goes to version 2.00.038. I don't know of that's a stable version.
Any idea where i can find version 1.9?

Cheers, Andre

I think you may get them on the  ftp site but really I think you would probably be best going for the latest version, I would think it the most stable as Mach3 is in lockdown and the only things getting done now are bug fixes as they appear.

You need to make sure that auto enlarge is not checked, you will find this from the config menu then general config.
The reason that happens is when I was making the screen I had a background image then deleted it but for some reason it deleted from all screens except one and on that one it enlarged itself. I just cant delete that and the only way I could fix it would be to redo the whole screenset and I just dont have the time at the moment.

Hello hood,
Thanks for the carbon screen set.iam planning to use it for 17'' touch screen.
in the set every thing is just fine.except the jog buttons.
i couldn't find them any where(i think jog button are very IMP touch screens).can u add separate  page for that?
or else i'll be happy to do the modification.but i don't know which software(tool) to use.
thanks.

I use MPG's all the time and never jog via keyboard or screen but if you press the Tab key on your keyboard you will have the flyout for Jogging. You could set up a button on screen for doing that if you liked, there should be an OEM code for it but at the moment I cant remember it.
If you want to modify the screen open it with screen 4 and just add another page and use the Jog buttons from the flyout (page 50 I think)

Been a few years since I have done anything with Mach3. I know this is a very old thread. I am hoping someone out there has a touch screen set for lathe. I have just about finally finished my 3 axis lathe and have a pc case I made with a 1024 x 768 7" touch screen in the front of it. I would like to use a  screen set for it.

Thanks,

I know this thread is old, but I was trying to get this screen set working with the current version of Mach, and when I load it what I get is compressed in Y to maybe 32 pixels.
Is there some trick with the install I'm missing or is it just not working with the current version on Mach 3?

Thanks

I made this screenset with one of the first versions of screen 4 and there was a problem, it applied a background image to one of the pages that was huge and I could not get rid of it.
If you turn off AutoScreen Enlarge (General Config page) then it should view properly, you will either have to restart Mach or reload the screen after you change that setting.

Out of interest, when using a touch screen do you still use a standard keyboard for data input or have you found a popup on screen keyboard e.g. like an Ipad keyboard?
