Title: New User Friendly Practical Lathe Screen (with space shuttle acc.)
Post by: poppabear on July 08, 2007, 07:50:06 PM
Here is a new Lathe "Practical" Lathe set.

After seeing many post about a more compact, closer to single screen Lathe interface I made one.
I left many of the "Space Shuttle" Bells and whistles. There is room to add more if your so inclined.

Please read the "Read Me 1st" on where to put the new bitmaps.

Let me know what you think, (Main Screen, Screen shot below, plus zip file).

Hi Scott

What does the Front to Rear Post Distance DRO do? Also are the Set Home X and Set Home Z buttons setup for use with your screens?

Nice work!

Thanks

I done have a "set home x and y",  I never used them, so didnt include them, there is room to add them if you wish.  I just use the Zero x and Zero y, I have home/Tool change position switches on my machine.

The Front to Rear tool post DRO, is if your lathe has a front and Rear Tool post, it is for you to set their seperation distance, and then you have a button to choose which one to use.
The Tool number setting buttons are for you to pick i.e. Tool 1, and then you can touch off the x and then the z offsets, this loads those into the tool table for you, there is a button to manually edit the tool table as well.

A user asked for a Larger G-code window on the main page, and x and y axis dros on the Tool path page, so I added them to the practical lathe screen, but called it vs2.0.....

so you have your choice original practical lathe, or this screen with larger G-code window, and axis dros on the tool path page.

Very nice so I need to ask will this work on my 4th axis that is a lathe?

IS this mean strictly for a lathe machine?

Very nice regardless!

Sure, if you want an extra 2 axis, beyond the X and Z, just open up screen designer and Drop them in.

There really isn't alot of differences between lathe and mill screens, (they are the same 6 axis control), it is just Lathe has radius/diameter settings on the X. and Mill doesnt (since it doesnt use it).
If you wanted you could has all 6 axis working on your lathe.........

Hey Scott, this is the GREATEST for Turn. But the G/M code button goes to a blank page.
Could the NEW version be put in there.....with the definitions and all ?
Thanks,
RC

Hey Scott,
Just downloaded this fine screen to a new set-up and some of the goodies are missing.
Where did they go ?
I put the bitmaps are where they belong. They show up on the screen and in the fly-out.
Thanks,
RC

RC,

do This, Open up the set in Screen designer, and look at where the paths are pointing, it should be to bit maps for lathe, here is a screen Shot of mine so you can see what bit maps............  The Buttons you are missing are "Bit Map Buttons" The little Blank squares will be the actual button with the VB in it.  They for some reason on yours are not importing the Bitmap cover.

Scott,
I already did this: I saw the 6 missing ones in the Mill bitmaps folder. So I copied and pasted them into the general bitmap folder and now they show up fine in your turn screen.
I'll do what you suggested as well.
Thanks,
RC

Looking at the Turn bitmaps...they are triangles. In Mill, they are arrows.
All better now,
Thanks Scott,

Thank you for the Comp., I think I may redo that screen "Practicle lathe", in flash for "Sh*ts and Giggles"  ......... when I can find some spare time laying around.

That would be great Scott.
It's the easiest screen to use and is my favorite.
One little quip though.
Every time I open the TOOLPATH screen, with any file loaded, there is a portion of a large "A" visible. (pic)
One click in the field and it goes away.
No biggie. Any idea where it comes from or how to get rid of it ?
Thanks again,
RC :)

Wow, I don't get that A shape at all in any files.

Are you just messing with us? If so, that's a good one -  ;)

Hi Scott,

I tried loading this screen set but it would show up in file open window until I removed the l from the file extension making the extension .set. Then it loads normally. However now when I reload the 1024.set to go back to the standard Turn screen set I get the milling screen set instead of the turning screen set.

My question is, how do I return to the standard Turn screen set?

Thanks,
Kerry

To Poppabear,

How do you turn on the Soft Limits in Practical Lathe vs 2.0?

Also, What is the space shuttle accessory and what does it do?  Replace the MPG?

Your Lathe screen is indeed User Friendly and Practical.  Thank you.

BOB88

How do you turn on the Soft Limits in Practical Lathe vs 2.0?

>>>>>>  I did not put a Soft Limits button on the screen since I am aways changing the setup for different work.
If you want one, just add a button called Soft Limits, a good place would be under the Diangostics button on the main page.
Open screen designer, for regular Mach3 Mill, and see what the OEM code is for toggling Softlimts (add the LED that goes with it).
to your Practicle lathe screen.

Also, What is the space shuttle accessory and what does it do?  Replace the MPG?

>>>>>>>>>>> No space shuttle accessory, I was just being sarcastic since I put so much crap on the thing.

BUT!!!!!!!  If you hit the "Tab" Key, it WILL bring out a MPG shuttle window...

Your Lathe screen is indeed User Friendly and Practical.  Thank you.

>>>>>>>>>>>> Thanks,

scott

To Poppabear.

In Practical lathe 2.0 when Homing All it homes the Z-Axis first and then the X-axis.  How do you get it to home the X-Axis first to get the tool away from the workpiece?

When I load the Mach 1024.lset, it homes the X-Axis first.  It's the same Ports and pins setup.   Thank you.

Hi Poppabear,

Have you done any updates to Practical_Lathe2.0 modA.lset  since this last post?

Question:  In Mach3 Turn, hitting the HOME ALL button after the axes have been homed using SET HOME X, SET HOME Z, etc., causes the axes to home at extremely fast feedrate.  Have you noticed that?  I'm wondering if I can put your HOME ALL Button script in MACH3 TURN'S Home All button.  Will that fix the excessive axis feed problem?

Also, how is a button removed from 1024.lset if I want to get it off the screen altogether?

Thank you very much for all your support to the forum.
Bob
