Title: Lcam 2.0...
Post by: Brian Barker on May 04, 2007, 03:56:49 PM
Hello,
Lcam Rev 2.0 is out and there is a video on line telling you a bit about how it works... you can't do Foam with this version (So if you need that please Do NOT Install Rev 2 at this time) . Please try this version and tell us what you think and I also think that you will find many things that you have asked for in this version :)

One known bug is that you can't do turn in Dia mode ... I have to do a bit more work in that section :( But Mill and plasma should be working...

Thanks
Brian

If you can find a way to break it every time we can fix it :)  I will keep an eye out for that problem..

Chip, I didn't tell anyone but there are a few more words in the posting word list. You and a few others are the only ones that have made posts for Lcam and I just wanted to tell you. I will be making a Doc for posting but it will be after we are done adding to it.

Have fun guys and keep telling us what you need

1. Duplicate. line in lower left Square is missed by old and new LC, with Remove Redundant lines Checked or Un-Checked, Load Options.

2. Dots are missed in Layer_3_ Dot, with Remove Dots Checked or Un-Checked Load Options, or with Layer Enabled Checker, Old ver Worked.

Jumped the gun hear Previous Post, "The problem of moving origin with mouse is working fine with new Ver., Never could get it to work hear with Prev. Versions".

3. What I find is If I load the Attached file and don't zoom in on the Origin Marker first and Move it, LC errors to Windows error report.

Once I've moved it and double click to default size window it seems to work fine from then on, Sofar.

I have the same version of Visual Studio you use, If I could get some partial source code, New or Old that covers this type of Origin move and  a little guidence from someone maybe we could track this problem down and be done with it.

I've reported this before with Debug of program with EXE file but its in Assembly code, Guess this is hard to work with,

I have the time and computer with this problem, Would like to help on this if you have a way, This problem is causing a few others problems also.

Another Great Advance In New LC, This is So-----Nice.

Thanks, Chip

Hi Art and Brian,

Well... ya got my money today... gladly given. Great improvements. Remarkable what you guys can do with no sleep, and chatting on the net everyday!  ;D

The first thing I tried was Turn, since that is what I need the most... I have a couple of other MillCAM apps.

I can't seem to get g-code output. I read the thread on dxf prep, and tried the AOuterProfile.dxf sample. All the steps seem to go through, but no roughing or finish profiles are generated.

I did get one other dxf to work, but it was a non-conforming version. The g-code had some way out there values for "K"?

Here are my files and images for your spare time perusing.  ;)

Just downloaded ver 2.00.2 and can now generate Turn profiles. However, the profiles are shifted to the left by the nose radius value, and there is a nose radius artifact at the right end of the profile. Also, the profile "spills over" the left end and goes almost to spindle center. The posted G-code has "K" values that are *extremely* high digits, and other X-Z values are out of range for the min-max boundries of the original dxf.

Attached are the latest rev of my dxf, screen shot of generated profile and G-code posting.

On the Mill side, I'm having issues with "hungapp" lockups when trying to set "drill circles".

Thanks for all the effort you guys are putting into this app. LC is maturing rapidly and is appreciated. Looking forward to future revs... kinda like opening the latest Birthday card from Grandma... can't wait to see what's stuffed inside.  ;)

Hi, Brian

Missed your comment on Post options looking forward seeing the list, Thanks.

Items 1, 2 working now with 05 07 Update.

Item 3 still not working.

Working now 05-07 Update 1. Duplicate. line in lower left Square is missed by old and new LC, with Remove Redundant lines Checked or Un-Checked, Load Options.

Working now 05-07 Update 2. Dots are missed in Layer_3_ Dot, with Remove Dots Checked or Un-Checked Load Options, or with Layer Enabled Checker, Old ver Worked.

3. What I find is, If I load the Attached file and don't zoom in on the Origin Marker first and Move it, LC errors out to Windows error report.

Once I've moved it and double click to default size window it seems to work fine from then on, Iif I load a new file, I have to repeat the

Zoom, Mover Origin again. Un-less it the same file

I have the same version of Visual Studio you use, If I could get some partial source code, New or Old that covers this type of Origin move and  a little guidence from someone maybe we could track this problem down and be done with it.

Hi Paul
Thanks for the info, i see from the above post that you are using LC for a lathe i am new to Mach and LC not used anything like LC before and  i am trying to figure out how to  draw a profile in a cad program so LC can recognize an outside versus an inside turn i know you have to draw a line some how to designate this but i don't understand it can you give me any info on how this is done.

Hi Dennis,

Here's the thread on LC Turn setup. It's a little stale, but should get you going:

http://www.artsoftcontrols.com/forum/index.php?topic=2968.0

LC Turn is still getting some fixes by our Guru's, so give it a try and report your results. Lathe ops seem to be somewhere around 25% or less interest here, so we need all the supporting members we can round up. Fortunately, Art is the Big Gorilla in our corner.  ;)

Good luck, and let us know of any techniques you find to make LC Turn G-code work.

Hi, All

Thanks for the post work in todays LC update, Art & Brian, Post is a little off I think but a nice step forward.

Seam's to post the Rough portion of code a little long on both end's.

Orientation for start of G-code & return to start point seem unclear/off.

What happened to the return to 0,0 in Post Option ?

Maybe there should be a Start at x,z & Return to X,Z in LC Lathe or Post option's, To allow for clearer setup ?

Thanks & just some Thought's Hear, Chip

Title: Re: Lcam 2.0...
Post by: DennisF on May 08, 2007, 09:35:24 PM
Hi Paul & Chip
Thanks for your input, i agree with Chip that the start position shold be at the center of the billit on the right hand side and all turns shoulod be from this point to the X + to the Z- for the cut's.
The turn should start from the right hand side of the billit and on the center line of the lathe and then make it's turn moves from right to left or from tail stock to chuck.
Right now with the profiles Art posted the zero point is on the left then goes to the right to start the cut.

Dennis
Title: Re: Lcam 2.0...
Post by: PaulWC on May 08, 2007, 10:21:54 PM
Hi Dennis,

I normally set 0,0 the way you mention. I use a 1/4" drill blank in the chuck to touch off X with a cigarette paper, then step in 0.126" and set X0. Then I mount the workpiece and touch off on the outer (right) end for Z0.

The only time I use the left end as Z0 is when I'm doing a facing cycle to bring stock to correct length. Then I touch off on the face of the chuck body.

I downloaded today's LC posting, and I still get tool profiles shifted to the left by the nose radius value. And still have the tool profile trying to go to X0 off the left end of the stock.

Patience will bring all good things with time!  ;)

Hi, Art

Sorry about that File, Took a Coffee Brake to load for Me, But it Loaded.

There's a 3 x 4 inch object in there Some Where to cut, It's so small you can't see it at All, Just 2 dashed lines bottom Right of drawing.

I Didn't now it had some Turned Off Layer's, Hadn't loaded it in to a Cad Program.

File Was from a Friend's company that builds 37' & 47' Trawler's.

The Zoom Button feature zoomed into it Fine.

The double click on the Screed to re-size Fine Also

A couple Thought's Hear.

Could you Add a stasis Bar or % Done showing that LC is Still Active, And a way to Terminate Back to a stable LC if Such a File is Loaded by Mistake

Windows Task Monitor and the top of the LC Window will Show "Not Responding" even though LC is Plugging Along Just Fine.

Thanks, Chip

PS: The Move Origin with Mouse is Working  Wonderfully.

Hi Art & Brian

Working with Ver.2.0.005 LC

Layers as drawn is back & Working, Thanks

Optomiize drawing, Doesn't remove Redundant lines, As it did in previous version.

Remove Redundants on Load, Has never Removed them for me and still doesn't.

I see Splines are loading now, Thay cut a little funny, LC imports the shape to create them also.

The Move Origin with Mouse is Working Wonderfully, I have had it mess-up with Art's error Msg.'s a couple times, But not at first move of Origin as before, Ill go back and note them and post Soon !!.

Lathe: I must be Missing something hear (Everybody Nodding there Head's, L-O-L U-Hu..a...), OK!, Enough,!!.

Seem's to post the "Roughing" portion of code a little long on both end's

Orientation for start of G-code & return to start point seem's unclear.

Should be at end (Right End at stock OD, Rad. X & Z 0)

Maybe there should be a Start at x,z & Return to X,Z in LC Lathe or Post option's, To allow for clearer setup ?

Maybe If reset Origin to min x, Z then Move Origin to set start point & move it away from profile to stock Dir, Rad., then generate Inc moves to fill/cut into final pass value would/could allow starting at left,Right or Center and use X0, Z0 Start point.

This would allow for Joging/Cutter Calibration and reset to 0,0 for start.

Thanks & Just some Thought's Hear, Chip

I have noticed this to Art and it seemes the tekst is the difficulty , he sould turn it on again and see whats happend.

The Remove redundant will get looked at and  we have a message out to the company that wrote the importing code about the splines :( We will have that in as soon as we get the fix :)

We are going to be doing a bunch of work to turn as soon as we have mill and plasma working :)

We are going to add MUCH more code to the turn section :) (Time is the problem at this point, and there are more people that use mill :( )

Thanks guys

Hi Art & Brian,

Getting back to LCam Turn... using ver 2.0.1, I tried creating G-code. I modified the dxf so the profile extends beyond the right and left ends so the previous artifacts would be off the finished profile. I figured I would jusr edit the G-code to take out the paths on the ends.

However, there are other errant toolpaths that cut into the profile. The toolpath takes a straight line, rather than following the arc defined by the G2/G3 command. I haven't verified the I&K values yet, but suspect the locations are the issue. Sidenote... the "k" placed in the code is lower case, while other letters are caps.

Attached are my modified dxf, and the G-code generated.

Thanks guys, Paul, Central OR

Hi Art,

I'm even more confused... I installed Mach3 .65 and LazyCam 2.1 on another shop computer and LazyCam fails to start. The Application Error dialog says: The application failed to initialize properly (0xc150002). Click OK to terminate the application.

Repeated attempts to launch give the same result. I uninstalled both Mach3 and LazyCam, and emptied the Mach3 folder except for my license.dat's. Then did a fresh install of both apps... still no LazyCam launch. Mach3 runs fine.

Hi Brian,

Here's a list of all the junk I have running on my main shop computer. It hasn't interfered with Mach3, but maybe there's something in there stepping on LazyCam's Offset function. Let me know if anything in there strikes a chord.

Thanks, Paul, Central OR

mr brian

when i do a simple dxf with a circle that is centered, then when i rotate the drawing 5 degree or more the circle gets
lost.if the dxf has the circle on a offset when i rotate on a 90 the circle is still visable.using another degree like 32 no circle.
thanks for taking a look.

Please Post the DXF and i will have a look at it ...

Are you talking about rotating the view or the drawing?

Hi brian.  I've been using the lazycam pro (got the ugrade)  and so far so good.  I do have a question on pocketting.

I have a  smaller shape inside a larger shape and want to pocket between the two shape.    I don't think it is possible to do it in the version I have.  can it be done?  if not,  can you add the functionality?  that would be really cool.  I realize this can become quite complicated, but I think it would be be great function

thanks.

AskMan
Lcam  should do that now...  you select the outer chain and tell it to pocket and you are done :)

MR Brian

this has to do with after creating a offset, when using a circle.i was playing with offsets using a
circle, after creating a inside or outside offset, when leaving the check box unchecked for direction of cut then creat
offset when you try to highlight the new chain it wont highlight.if you do this to a rectangle it works right.

thanks bill

Thanks

It is not to bad :)
We just work everyday and try to keep working on the bugs... The model that we use is not the normal "develop in house and show it when it is finished and fully tested". We like to have people tell us what they think as we are working on the software and we also think that it makes for a better product in the end (Thanks to all the help of every one on the forum and the group).

I hope to have a new rev out for you very soon :)

MR Brian

you don't have to post a response to this.downloaded lc2.05 today.i like the way the indavidual chains rotate will be
looking forward to rotating the whole drawing as the future realeases come out.when doing offsets on a rectangle
using any combination (in,out,cw,ccw) it's good.when doing offsets on a circle with differant combos it has trouble.
looking forward to the next version.

thanks bill

you got me fair and square,i did not notice the new options in the rotate box, pretty goog stuff.you would think
that after trying many selections that i would see it.it would have taken me two weeks to notice it.

Gen Notes:

USing V.076 I cannot access the different layers by clicking on them from the screen they highlight but do not change. I can change the layers from the properties bar ok

Multipass, do we really need to return to and from safe z on each pass?

Leadin? What is the proper size for a lead in? Is it a ratio of the tool diameter? Can we have the default based on a ratio of the tool diam?

Tool table, can we have a reference popup window that accesses Mach's tool table for a reference(this is LAZYCAM correct I get too lazy to go find the tool table catalog for mach(;-) )

Drill holes, If in the tool settings it calls for a step that is less than the max depth can we have a peck drill instead of a straight drill.
COuld we have an option to create another layer of the drill layer to use for a tapping layer, with the input to set up mach for
tapping Gcode wise(G95,Feed per rev,Etc., or a spot drill layer , etc.

Good so far (;-) TP

Gcode utility, could we have a simple utility to reoder the line numbers that get mixed up from cutting a pasting and editing the Gcode file.

Hi Guys, I used an example DXF for Lazycam Turn and came up with the attached toolpath in Mach 3. It doesn't seem to cut the spirals but Mach 3 Turn always displays them. Mach 3 version R2.3, Radius Mode, Reversed Arcs in Front Post unchecked,Lazycam 2.02 downloaded July 26, 2007. Diameter mode would be much appreciated. Thanks, Glen.

Hi group, is there any chance of diameter mode becoming available in LazyCam for lathe ?
Thanks, Glen.

Your video demonstrates the cam can generate g-code to write text on a plane. Is there any way to write text on a wheel with CNC milling machine? Thanks, Xavier

Hi, I am new to cnc. Purchased a small 21X12X3 hobby mach om ebay and Mach3.

I do a lot of scroll sawing and was wondering, will LC pro handle my scroll saw plans that I scan into Designcad and save as R12 DXF file? Or should I buy a higher end cam package?

Thanks formn a novice.
