Title: GCode
Post by: michel-cnc on November 06, 2011, 09:02:11 AM
Hello,

I am a beginner.
i am using FreeCad for a mechanical part and have exported .ast file and now, i want to produce GCode for MAch3.
I have tried CamBam but the resulting .nc is bad for Mach3 (he doesn't recognized some words like "solid mesh").
What software can i use to produce Gcode ? what are you using ?

I have other questions - can you see the attached file (pdf) ?

Thank you very much for your help.

I don't know what types of files FreeCad can export to. Manny programs can export a DXF file. Different programs import different types of files.
Cambam will not open an .ast.  Some programs require a vector based file  and produce gcode while there are programs that use graphic files and can create gcode from it.
Then there are programs that require a file created from 3D CAD. All depends on what you want to do, how much you want to spend ( maybe nothing) but irrelevant
need to "walk down learning curve lane".

For what you show in the attached pdf you could draw that in Cambam and get the gcode, or you could use a wizard, or you could draw it in CAD but export as a dxf
and then use LazyCam or some other program to get the gcode. Or you can even do the code manualy.

Suggest you take a look at the Cambam tutorials  and how to use the program.
