Does this work for Windows2000 Pro?

I'm getting an error message when starting up. Says it can find the "gdiplus.dll" file.  (The dynamic link library gdiplus.dll could not be found in the specified path.....)

Hey,

I think gdiplus is included in W2k SP4. Do you have SP4 installed?

Yes, SP4 loaded.

Downloaded gdiplus.dll and placed in windows\system folder. Working great!

Originally got an error for pagefile.sys being too small, but it eventually loaded. Played around with it and it looks super!

Thanks for the effort!

Hi Klaus,
1. I LOVE Machscreen.
2. Could you make either the web address in the about screen a hyper link or could you add a check for updates button some where. I don't always come to this forum to look for updates but today I did.

Thanks,

New ver. 1.38f has sped up things further. I can load the 1024.set file in this version instantaneously. With 1.38e it used to take a good 20 seconds or so on my laptop pc. Good job Klaus. Another item on the wish list is to open two or more files together and cut and paste from one to other. Or is this possible with with the current versions and I am too dumb to know it?  ;D

Hi zafarsalam,

Machscreen cannot open 2 set-files at the same time. But you can copy from one set file to another. Open the source set-file, select the items from the page you are interested in (Ctrl A copies all elements from a page), don't close file, just open the target set_file, select the page and paste the data, e.g. Ctrl V.
You also can import pages using "insert addon". This works at the moment only, if the "load last used file at start" is not checked. I will correct that with the next version.
Select menu File -> Insert addon change the file filter e.g. to *.set and select the set-file which you want to add files from. Assign the pages you want to use and click ok.

EDIT:
Version V1.38.g can be downloaded.

"Insert Add On" function is very useful. The file load dialog box displayed the *.sset files by default and instead of file "Open" button it displays a file "Save" button. Maybe that why I shied away from it when I tried it earlier. I used to do this thing with screentweak (i.e. copy screens from one screen set to other) and then cut and paste in Machscreen. This can be done in Machscreen too, that's cool.

Hello,

version V1.39 is available. Changes:

Toolbar icon issue fixed. Minor changes for external editor.
Program memory request decreased.
When last used file was checked, menu "insert addon" wasn't enabled, fixed.
DRO background issue fixed, "Insert addin" file selection dialog "save" changed to "open". yellow windows was missplaced sometimes, fixed.
Under Win2000 the combo box for page selection didn't expand, fixed. Installation procedure  for WIN2000 adapted. "Save" and "save as" reported an error on FAT32 file-systems. Error message disabled. When saving data, MachScreen saves set-file data, frame sizes and all locked items. The frame-sizes and lock-bits are stored in an ADS. FAT file-systems don't support ADS, this means frame-sizes and lock-bits are not remembered at next start.

Hi

version V1.40 is available. Changes:

MRU issue fixed.
Right and bottom members of position group in property dialog are no more editable
Multiple instances can now be run at the same time. If the same set-file is opened in different instances, only the first opened file has read-write permission. This means, changes in any file other the "first" opened cannot be saved. Although there can be more than one instance running, there is no way of copying from one instance to another.
EDIT: When window was scrolled, positions of selected items were calculated wrong.

Hi,

version V1.41 is available.
Added:
The integrated editor supports now Cypress basic syntax coloring. Additional to that it supports Mach functions as well. When a Mach function is recognized, the available parameters are shown in a listbox. Clicking the required parameter inserts this parameter into the function.
This was a lot of writing and I did a lot of testing. If you find a misspelling or a reserved word which is not recognized. Please feel free to tell me.

I just grabbed 1.43 and whenever it starts up there's a messahe: "MachScreenReadOnly.dll not found"

After acknowledging the error, MachScreen seems to run OK. Should I revert to an earlier version or is this OK?
Title: Re: MachScreen releases
Post by: Klaus1311 on June 14, 2010, 10:11:27 AM
Hi dunkers

what OS are you using?. The dll should be deleted from the machscreen dir and installled in the windows\system32 dir. You need to have admin rights, for installing, if you don't, the installation fails. As a workaround you can copy the dll from the machscreen dir to the windows\system32 dir. If this doesn't help, or if you cannot find the dll please let me know, and I send you the dll.

Thanks for the info. I installed into W2K-SP4 and got the message there, but also Mach Screen popped up some other message implying the OS wasn't up to date. I then copied everything to Windows 7 and got the same original message.

I just checked the W2K install and the dll is in system32 as you suggest. I copied that to the W7 setup and it works fine there, though still gives an error on W2K.

Thanks very much. Great program :)

Hello

Version V1.44 is available. New features added:

Elements from page 0(Global) can now be assigned to any valid page number. Select the element from page 0 and change Global parameter to ‘no’ and select the new page number from the listbox.

When a element is locked for mouse move it is now no more selectable. To unlock it, you can use the standard menu “Edit” or context menu (right mouse button)  -> unlock single element.  To keep the number of the shown selected items small, you can set filters in the type list. If more than 1 element should be unlocked, select the items and press OK.  To unlock 1 element you can either select the item and press OK, or doubleclick the item.

Is it possible to have grids in machscreen for ease of placement of objects. Or is it already there and I am too dumb to know :). I am downloading v1.44 and will give it a try for the new screen I have to develop. Thanks for the excellent support for your software.

Hi Zafar

right now, there are no grids. But you can align your elements with the align - left, right, top, bottum, same size, same height, same width feature. Just select the elements you want to align and click the desired align icon, or menu point. All elements are aligned corresponding to the master-selected element.

Klaus,
I'd like to ask you to rethink this change about "locked for mouse movement".

Logically, "locked for mouse movement" means that you have marked an  object as not movable on the screen (until it is unlocked). This is a very common thing to do - when you get an object where you want it, you want it to stay put and not get accidentally moved.

However, "not movable" is a totally different concept from the concept of "not selectable". I find the two concepts independent.
In v1.44 these two concepts are now forced to be the same. This creates a pretty serious problem from my viewpoint. If an object is not selectable, it can not be selected - sounds obvious right? But if you can't select it, you also can't see it's properties - as you can only see the properties of an object **after** you have selected it.

This effectively means that "not movable" == "not selectable" == "properties are not viewable".

Even on parts of screens sets I have "finished", it is very common to go select an object so I can see it's properties - for example to see what the name of the bitmap image is for the object.
With v1.44, suddenly I can't look a the properties of most of my screen objects - just because they were already "locked for mouse movement".   :'(

I think I understand that the goal for the feature was to have a way to have fewer things to choose from in the selection list.

I would like to suggest that a better approach, (one that would still provide the "shrink the number of select choices" goal), would to be to make a new, separate, independent attribute for objects - let's call the new attribute "not selectable". The default for this new attribute should be "selectable" - so that it does not change the way existing screen sets are displayed.

If you did this, I think you could have the new "not selectable" feature without the unfortunate side effect of the current implementation.

This will also require that one carefully think through all the details of all the ways that you can select objects.
here are some examples:
Select all: It is important that "Select **all**" really does select everything - it should ignore the "not selectable" attribute.

Select by rectangle: Should this method select the "not selectable" objects? I could make arguments for both yes and no.

Multiple selects by control and multiple mouse clicks: Is it possible to do this sequence:
click object 1, hold control, go select object 2, find is is not selectable, so make it selectable, then select it, and then go on without loosing the previously selected objects and add more objects to the selection set?

If all this can thought out, and be made to work intuitively, great.
If not, I'd personally prefer to see "can't select locked for movement objects" removed from MS until such time as it can be well thought out and then fully designed.

Dave

Hi Dave.

I don't have much experience in designing screen-sets (I'm still busy converting my mill to CNC). I can follow your arguments. Every user has different preferences and it is impossible to satisfy everybody's wishes. As you say, in some cases there is not just one solution to be right. It would be interesting for me, what other users think about:
Select all :
select really all, or select all except the unselectable
Select by rectangle:
select really all, or select all except the unselectable
Quote  “Multiple selects by control and multiple mouse clicks: Is it possible to do this sequence:
click object 1, hold control, go select object 2, find is is not selectable, so make it selectable, then select it, and then go on without loosing the previously selected objects and add more objects to the selection set?”
This solution would need a major change in program-code, at the moment I will not implement that.
If some of you don't want to give their opinion here in the forum, please feel free to send me an email. You'll find my email address on my homepage -> contact, in my profile, or from MachScreen Help - >email.

Hello

Version V1.43.2 is available.

I added a few things.

If righth-mouse button is clicked while script editing, Mach- and Basic functions and their parameters with the required version are shown in a dialog. Depending on the setting, either all functions, or only functions for a defined Mach version will be shown. The selected Mach version is shown in the info line on bottom of the edit-window. When a function is double clicked, the function is inserted at the current caret pos.
New functions for version 42.30 and 43.06 added.

Hey Klaus,

As per usual, I MUST thank you once again, on the Exceptional support and fantastic screen designer.

I would like to add my two cents for what ever it is worth......  mabey 2 cents??  :)

1). Locked for Mouse = Non Movable.
2). Non-Selectable:
I see a few suggestions here....
If the item is "Ticked" for Non-Selectable, I would put a "Drop Down" box next to that tick box, options being:

     * default is Right mouse click Select single object
     * Select ALL will be able to edit it
     * Select Rectangle will be able to edit it
     * Select ALL or Rectangle will be able to edit it

OR:

Have it where when something is in a "Unselectable state", the standard right click to edit single object, OR
Have it where you have an OVRIDE key coupled with the Left Mouse button, i.e.  you push the ALT key, then push the
Left Mouse button you can select to view/edit the unselectables by dragging a box around the ones you want to look at, even if it is
just one thing.

You could even make a "Hot Key" combo, like Shift-Ctrl-A  this would select ALL including the Non-Selectables as an override...

GRID:

Just something for the back burner, I agree with Zarfar on this one, a "Grid" that you could set the "Snap To" spacing betweeen the grid points, and a Toggle button that would turn the grid On and Off for viewing and/or you could have it where the user can set the Grid spacing, but have the option of "seeing" the actual grid points or not, and just have the objects "Snap" to the closest grid point as your dragging it around, it will continue to move and snap to what ever grid point is closesest until you let go of the left mouse button, then which ever grid point is closest to the upper left corner of that object it will snap to, when "Snap to Grid" is on. You could make it where you could toggle on/off a auto snap to gird point or not, incase some one wants something placed NOT at a grid line....

Scott

Hi Scott,

thanks for your suggestions. I know, there are always things that could be made different / better.   Your suggestions would need quite a lot of programming. I don't think many users would need/use  that features. So for the moment I won't implement that.
GRID:
As I've mentioned in earlier postings, in my opinion the align features are more powerful. You can align to every edge and centered to a master element and you can move all selected elements with arrow keys to the desired pixel position .

The OEM-Code field in the property-dialog was indented for user defined entries only.
I've noticed, that some users are also putting the code numbers for OEM / Standard codes in this field.
If you enter a code number which exists in the OEM and in the Standard code-list, a dialog-box asks for the type.

I've also released a new version of MachProfile V2.07. New features: Motor tuning parameters and all used Port / Pins can be printed.

Hi Klaus,

We have just found with Hood that there is something that can be very useful which can be done in Screen4 but not in MachScreen. In Screen4 one can force leading zeros by using a formatting string something like this %04.0f. MachScreen on the other hand, doesn't output leading zeros with the same formatting string.

Also, using a formatting string like T%04.0f is allowed in Screen4 and and will output the T in front of the number. This is useful in some cases, like the one demonstrated by Hood, here:

http://www.machsupport.com/forum/index.php/topic,17093.msg127574.html#msg127574

Please consider adding these capabilities to MachScreen.

Thank you for your efforts and a great software!

I've redone the DRO's format part of MachScreen. You can now set a preceding text, which is shown on DRO's and also set leading zeros.
Version V1.51 can be downloaded from my site.

Hi Klaus

I have just downloaded the latest version from your web site and installed it (twice).
Something seems to be wrong. The row of small buttons across the top above the active area is populated with mostly khaki buttons. There are about 3 with pictures on the buttons, that's all. After a while one button acquired a picture, but clearly something is wrong?

help please

Hi Roger

the toolbar icons you see in "khaki" are disabled. If you for example select an element, the icons cut, copy and delete should be enabled.
If you select at least 2 elements the align icons will be enabled.

is it possible to move objects with more than one step with the keyboard arrows? Like holding down "shift" to move it at a faster rate?

Hi Jan,

you can move elements in different ways:
with the mouse by drag and drop
align elements horizontally and vertically to already positioned elements using the toolbar icons
by setting the position in the property dialog.

Placing elements with the arrow keys is for fine positioning. Setting the increment step I think wouldn't make it much more convenient.

Klaus

How about a way to constrain movement to either vertical or horizontal when dragging with the mouse. Perhaps a with hotkey.

I often find I want to move an object vertically but not lose horizontal position.  So I press the up arrow and wait for ages while the object crawls up the screen.  :D

Thats the same issues im having. Sometimes i even loose the controls behind other controls as well. Thats why the shift command would be great. Its doable the way it is. But it could have been great :)

Hello

I've made version V1.53a width the following addition. Select your element and move it, while moving press the L key. Depending on the difference of start pos and the actual mouse pos, elements are only moved to either hor or vert direction, the greater diff wins.

Hello MachScreen users!

A happy New Year to all of you.

MachScreen V1.54 is released and can be downloaded at http://www.kd-dietz.com/klausphp/index_eng.html (http://www.kd-dietz.com/klausphp/index_eng.html)

Fixes:
If data where changed and a file from the MRU was opened the file to be opened was overwritten, fixed

Changes:
made more robust against corrupted set files
if Alt key is pressed at start-time of MachScreen a cmd string is ignored, and all windows are placed on the master screen
Script length is controlled not to exceed 65535, if so, a warning message pops up
DRO / Slider format can have now a trailing text also
DRO format accepts now a %-sign
Syntax coloring switched on again, was (forgotten) off for debugging purposes

 Attention!
a feature implemented in version V1.53a has changed:
 Old
Lock movement to hor / vert. The direction is determined by the actual mouse pos to the start mouse pos press L
 has changed

 New
Toggle mouse movement orthogonal / random with icon. the direction is determined by the actual mouse pos to the start mouse pos toggle toolbar element right to selection toggle

I did this change, because I think, it is more intuitive / easier to find / use an icon, than use a hidden key combination

Hello Klaus.
Will it be possible to import the original Mach screen into your program and make hotkeys to all buttons? I tried this with Screen4 but not all of them worked. Will your program be a better choice for this purpose?
Title: Re: MachScreen releases
Post by: Klaus1311 on March 08, 2012, 03:09:55 AM
Hi,

you can load your screenset file into MachScreen. Use Menu View ->Hotkeys. This will show you all assigned hotkeys.
To sort the list, just click the header column you want to sort. Perhaps you can find the reason why some of your hotkeys don't work.
To change a hotkey, change the view to "Design". Select the page in the property box, select the button you want to add a hotkey to(be sure the multi / single icon shows "1", this is the second icon form the right in the toolbar). Doubleclick the value column in the hotkey line. This opens an edit field. Just press the key(s) you want to assign. If you assign an already defined hotkey, a error message shows where this hotkey is already assigned.

HIYA Klaus, Have you given any more thoughts on a Build a wizard function where it will trans fer all the needed bitmaps to the correct directory for the wizard.

Currently you have to phsically go out and FIND all the needed bitmaps and assemble them in the proper directory BEFORE you start to build the wizard. Most times you don't really know which ones you will use . Then you have to physically move the bitmaps AND THEN change the path in the screenset after you have created the screen.

Just a thought, (;-) TP

Hi MachScreen users,

from my homepage can the new version V1.57 of MachScreen being downloaded. I added a function "Collect Bitmaps". This function can "collect" all referenced bitmaps and bitmap buttons and moves them to a new directory it also changes the path inside of the screenset accordingly. This can be usefull, if someone wants to strip off all unused bitmaps. In the lower part of the dialog is a guidance text for every step to be taken.

Hi MachScreen users,

Version V1.61 is available.
Fixes:
"Persist. data editable on all pages" checked and selecting all elements, does not include page 0 elements when working on page 50.
New:
Every time a screenset-file is loaded, MachScreen checks width and / or height for 0. The found elements are shown in a report. The user has the following options:
delete, the selected elements are deleted
expand, the selected elements are shown in a larger Size.
ignore

In cases where many elements selected, it's often hard to find the selection hotspot to drag. Holding down the F2 button makes the selection hotspot flash.

Hello Klaus,
I was having issues getting the screen designer to work. The main screen keeps disappearing on me. I tried the workaround of holding shift during the start of the app which helps to start the program but if I try to edit any of the screens - the same exact thing happens - it pops up for half a second and then disappears. It seems to me it has something to do with the resolution. I do have a high resolution - 1920by1080. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

P.S. I used the program to start my design and it was working beautifully. I really love your product. Then unfortunately this happens. Hope you can help me fix it.

Hello,

Today I’ve released MachScreen V1.68
Occasionally I get questions how certain tasks can be solved with MachScreen. I think releasing new version V1.68 is a good opportunity to show some features which were added in the recent releases.
-   Menu View -> User defined LED’s,   user defined Button’s   user defined DRO’s.
These operations show the “Function number”, attributes, calling page and position. This could be useful to prevent for using the same number for different controls

-   Menu Options -> show / save scripts. This Operation collects all scripts of the screenset and show them and if needed, save them to a file. This could be useful for copying and pasting scripts from one screenset to another.

-   Menu Options -> Resize Page. This operation changes the size of all or individual pages. This operation could be useful if a screenset with large pages should be changed on a small monitor with low resolution.

Klauss...hi!!!

I have learned a lot and greatly improved the use of my Mach3, with your add-ons, plug-ins and software.
You are awesome!!

But there is something that is leaving me crazy, but it is probably because I do not know how to use MachScreen.

So, I bought the 2010 Screenset form ger21, with his PS files to use them as learning to make my own Screenset.
At first I started editing a copy of ger21's screenset to understand the methodology he used, which by the way, is worth every penny. Thanks ger21!
First I added an image with transparent background, it worked.
Then I added text, the background was transparent, perfect.
But at some point, something happened due to an error, and I do not understand why, but the transparencies were no longer visible, instead they began to see a solid color on the background.

What are the general rules or suggestions to use transparencies of images and texts correctly?
Is it convenient to add the background to the beginning or end? Should I add the buttons before or after the background? And what about the texts?

When I add an image, image button, or label, I no longer get them to be transparent. At first it worked, but I think I messed it up when swap layers.

Another thing, when I add an image button or label, these are above the background, but when I add an image is below the background image. So, then I apply the solution to swap layers, and I think that was the origin of the mess.

Can you tell me where to learn a little more about all this?

Anyway, everything you've done is incredible.

Thank you!!
Title: Re: MachScreen releases
Post by: Klaus1311 on May 15, 2018, 04:12:47 AM
Hi Esteb

did you swap the layer using the context menu(right button)? If so, try the following:
make sure multi-selection is on (second icon from the right of the toolbar) showing "M"
hit the spot where all of your controls overlap. A list pops up with the overlaying controls
when hovering over the "Control element" column, the corrisponding element frame is highlighted
select the element and drag it to the display level you want (drag and drop).

If that doesn't work, perhaps you could send me your screenset for further investigation.

Thanks Klaus, of course I've seen your videos and your PowerPoint, I've come this far thanks to that and the forum.

I'm asking you some questions that I really do not find answers elsewhere

1) What is DRO Tabbing? Some DROs have 0, 1, 2 or 4. Does this have to do with whether or not they allow manually entering values in them? If not, how can I make a DRO NOT ALLOW manual entry values, only show information?

2) This question has to do with my initial doubt, regarding the transparencies. I took my time and studied several screensets, and I can't come to a certain conclusion.
A label, if it contains text, has a transparent background, but if it contains a system label, it takes the selected color as background. Why? Because of Mach3?
I want to have a transparent background in all labels, text, Errors, Mode, UserLabels, File, etc.
In wiki, talks about color 254,254,254 for 24-bit RGB bitmaps, Mach3 takes it as transparent, does not that apply to the rest of the objects?

3) I need to show the description of the tool, I found in the forum a system label called TOOLDESC for it, it works the first time, but it is not updated when changing the tool. Do you know something about it?

4) The following error, I found it also in Gerry's 2010 screenset, the LED of the Spindle, it turns on but it does not turn off.
This is my properties for that LED:
Function: Spindle CW LED
OEM-Code: 11
Event/Input/Output: Led output
Color: Led green
Blink: no
Red/Green LED: no
It's a 64x32 png LED, half says ON, and another half says off. There is something wrong?

I'm still working, thanks a lot!!

There is no error in the 2010 Screenset, unless it's been edited.

I just opened the .set file in Machscreen, and the settings are the same as you posted.
One thing to be aware of is the there is a transparent button on top of the LED, and if they get out of order, it may not display correctly.

I don't use Machscreen, so I don't know the best way to layer the button and LED so they are in the correct order (Button on top).
I created the screen using Screen 4, and was very careful about the order of item creation and placement.

If the screen has not been edited, and you are seeing an issue with the spindle LED, it may be that your spindle is not set up correctly, or it could even be a corrupt .xml file.

I get a lot of .xml files from other people, and have seen issues, where the spindle LED would not turn off. But I'm not actually running a machine, so I'm assuming it's a setup or .xml error.

There are a few thousand 2010 screenset users, and the spindle LED has never been a problem for anyone. If your spindle actually starts and stops, then the LED should be tuirning off when the spindle stops.

Also, if you are running Mach3 without the parallel port driver, the LED may not work correctly. Many Mach3 functions rely on the parallel port driver, or a motion controller plugin, to work properly.

Ahhh ok!!
I have an Ethernet Smooth Stepper with a CNC4PC's breakout board, running Mach3 on a thin client with Windows XP.
Any suggestions to solve this?

I bought your screenset about 2 months ago, best investment ever!! So, I'm running an unmodified version of your screenset.

I love your screenset, but I'm trying to adapt to a touch screen panel, because I have an HMI with 1024 x 768 of resolution, and the icons and buttons are very small, especially if the operator uses gloves

As long as you have the smoothstepper plugin installed, it's OK.
The problem is when running Mach3 in "Simulation Mode", with no parallel port or plugin installed.

Hello

I released MachScreen version V1.71.
Changes:
Minor bug-fixes in function "Collect bitmap files". Control-element types can now be used as a filter.
A few words to that function.
It scans the screenset for bitmap-files and copies / moves them to another folder. This could be handy, to trim bitmap folders from unused bitmaps, or get a new folder organization. It can be dwnloaded from https://kd-dietz.com (https://kd-dietz.com)

Hi Klaus,

are the copied/moved bitmaps updated in the screenset to reflect the new folder location?

Hi Graham

if "Guide through settings" is set, this function asks for:
target directory (this directory must reside under Bitmaps),
select the pages,
copy or move
file types
control types

all bitmaps found are copied / moved to the target directory and the pathfilenames in the screenset are set to the new path.

This function can not be undone

Hi Klaus
Your website offers English and German versions, which is nice.
However, to select the English version one must click on a button labeled 'Go to Emglish' [sic]. You might like to correct the spelling some day.
Anyhow, many thanks.
Cheers
